is what he wants to say. but a woman’s temper is not something to be tested and joowon hasn’t had proper time to assess the limits of leah’s. he’s heard things from his brother, not that he’s ever paid much attention. not that he listens to his brother whenever he mentions anything about a girl. because he doesn’t need powers to know that instinct tells him he shouldn’t.

he wishes very briefly for compulsion - if only to get leah out of the room so she can stop complaining. or the ability to selectively block noises - if there’s a word for that. that way she can complain all she wants and he would just - not hear her. alas like any other day no matter how much joowon wishes for something of the sort, it won’t come to him. his brother calls him foolish for wanting to wish for something that might be a curse, joowon calls him selfish.

nevertheless he’s still stuck here. neither of them new to the store but both of them getting sent here for inventory and naive in not realizing just how big the coffee shop’s storage was. in hindsight, hyunshik might’ve sent them both here as punishment for constantly arguing on the floor. is it joowon’s fault that anything he says sends leah into debate, heat pulsing from her ears as she argues with him.

it’s not much of an argument though. she spits fire and he just dodges and continues with his job. until she hits him where it hurts, calling one of his beloved comics ridiculous and well - he’s not going to just sit for that. even if the second guardians of the galaxy movie was unnecessary he wouldn’t voice it.

it might’ve become a little heated and hyunshik probably decided he’d rather handle the floor with their recent newbie than deal with the two of them. so inventory it is and joowon is currently four rungs high on this damn ladder and searching through old boxes.

“it can’t be legal to keep coffee in here this long.” he’s talking more so to himself because leah doesn’t want to help and has made that very clear. and if he addresses her again he might very well end up with the ladder pulled from under his feet. and well - he doesn’t quite have the ability to fly. though this would be a great way for it to suddenly manifest. imagine that!

it is stuffy though. and he does want to get out of here. he’s not allergic to dust but ti’s starting to clog his nose and his eyes and jeez -

where’s a persuasion skill when he needs it.

“hey leah, you planning on looking anytime soon or do you like being stuffed in storage closets? to each their own but hyunshik’s going to kill us both and put me on trash duty if we don’t finish this - and the filters aren’t up here I’ve looked four times.”

she’s not a particular traditionalist.

she likes her slurry instant coffee too hot to taste the flavor, and made in a hurry before that one semestral class that’s always too early in the morning. minseo doesn’t splurge. the small-town generational privilege she once had remains buried in the backyard of her old house like a time-capsule, long-forgotten and currently irrelevant.

still, she likes quiet. the coffee shop seems inviting in that sense; barred in the sunday 4pm lingering heat, but just commercial enough to afford a spot on the main street. so why not indulge?

she dangles her change in her loose fist, counting up coins to amount one small cappuccino and trying not to mind the way the girl behind the counter is eyeing her. it’s easy to excuse suspicions as pure paranoia. people say she’s too wary for it to be a survival instinct. sometimes, it gets to her head.
