Maybe I’m just bitter but I feel like no-one on this hell site gives a shit that 36 people died in Oakland last month…
These were artists, organizers, queers, the mentally ill and people of color. I follow a lot of people on here who purport to care about all of these kinds of people/issues, but I have yet to see a single fundraiser. No-one talking about how a lot of queer/radical spaces are being shut down. How people are being evicted in mid January because of this. No-one is saying the names of the ones we lost all in a single night. No-one is yelling about the housing crises in Oakland that led to this!
I don’t want to be one of those people who makes a post that starts off with “why is no-one talking about this?” But every single fucking time I see an image of Carrie fisher being spread around I get so fucking angry. I lost my best friend to this fire and many other people lost much more and no-one gives a shit.
No-one is talking about the collective trauma hundreds if not thousands of people are experiencing because of this. No-one is encouraging self care. No-one is spreading suicide hotlines in relation to this. No-one is talking about how to rebuild and strengthen our community, or how to keep each other safe.
I personally find it disgusting that y'all care more about a celebrity than about all of the beautiful young radical queer artists we lost that night.
