Danny is dragging himself to his early morning classes at Gotham University (thank you, Wayne Scholarship!), after surviving another sleepless night (curse you, gossipy ghost roommate!).

Just as he’s debating whether coffee counts as breakfast, Poison Ivy bursts from the sidewalk in a swirl of vines and petals.

Danny’s first thought: “Wait—does this mean I can skip class?”

Unfortunately, he’s so exhausted he forgets he doesn’t need to breathe… and inhales a full blast of pollen.

Thankfully, it’s not the flirty kind of pollen—because no one needs that crossover right now.

Instead, it triggers a massive icy sneeze, freezing Ivy’s prized mutant plant solid.

Danny blinks. The last time he sneezed like that, Sam made him replant her entire greenhouse.

Moments later, Poison Ivy finds a strange, frazzled Wayne-funded college kid crouched in front of her frozen flora, hands glowing green as he apologizes over and over.

When she steps closer, he looks up, eyes wide with panic.

“Jazz! Please help me! If Sam finds out I did this again, she’s gonna kill me—again!”

There’s a long pause.

Ivy just blinks. “...Who the hell is Sam?”

Danny freezes mid-thaw attempt. “…Not you?”

Ivy has never been this confused in her life.

Red Huntress had been a prospect for recruitment into the Justice League for months. Her skillset, tech, and ghost-hunting experience made her a perfect candidate.

But Constantine had warned them to wait.

“You don’t mess with ghosts until you’ve talked to their bloody guardian,” he’d said.

When they asked what he meant, he gave them a grim look.

If his sources were right, then Phantom-the so-called Ghost King, the spectral protector of Amity Park-wasn't just a ghost.

He was a Protector Spirit. A being tasked with guarding the boundary between worlds.

Between the living and the dead.

Between us and what waits beyond the veil.

According to Constantine's research, a Protector Spirit maintains cosmic balance simply by existing. Their aura keeps the worst malevolent entities—the "deep haunt" class of ghosts—from crossing over. But if a Protector Spirit ever abandons their post…

The gates they guard begin to weaken.

The entities start to slip through. And the world of mortals becomes a playground for the damned.

Constantine was getting ready to reach out to Phantom himself—to negotiate, maybe even guide him into Justice League Dark—when the news came in.

Red Huntress had already been approached.

By the main Justice League. in front of Phantom.

The boy vanished at once. Now Constantine's blood runs cold. They only have less than a day before Phantom's presence fully fades from the portal he has kept watch over. Afterwards, the gate will open wide. And the Justice League will finally understand what Constantine meant by "dire consequences." Because when the dead come screaming through the cracks— but only one spirit can force them back. They just scared him away.

Phantom stood in silence, gazing into the endless expanse of space — where galaxies shimmered like scattered fragments of glass.

Superman, frowning slightly: “Phantom, why is your heart beating so fast it sounds like it’s vibrating?”

Flash, slowing mid-run and gasping: “Dude, that’s faster than me!”

Phantom (calmly): “I don’t have a heart. I’m incubating the cores of my five children.”

Superman, confused but trying to be supportive: “...Congratulations?”

Green Lantern, blinking: “Wait—who’s the mother?”

Phantom: “Technically, me. I was cloned against my will, and when the clones became unstable, I placed them next to my core to stabilize naturally.”

Wonder Woman, nodding thoughtfully: “So… it’s like a Zeus thing?”

Phantom, with a small shrug: “If that helps you understand, sure.”

Batman: “So you’ll have more reinforcements soon?”

Phantom: “Not for a while. One is almost ready—I’d give it about a month.”

Green Arrow, smirking: “Got any names picked out yet?”

Phantom, smiling softly at the stars: “A few. But I’d rather they choose for themselves once they’re ready.”

And for a moment, even the Justice League fell silent— watching their ghostly teammate cradle the future inside a core of light.

A being of death, now giving birth to life. Somewhere in the vast quiet of the cosmos, balance was being restored.
