hope it's not too broad but do u have any good electronic/synth music recs?
Electronic/synth is perfect because once you get into specific genres of electronic music, I am so bad at differentiating House from Trance from Garage etc. I'll divide them into arbitrary categories based on vibes alone for organisational purposes:
Experimental early works:
The Robots - Kraftwerk (1971; Germany).
Plastic Bamboo - Ryuichi Sakamoto (1978; Japan)
These songs are from some of the earliest and most unique sounding electronic music albums and as such there's a distinctly hokey, 70s vibe to them that can put some people off. Just an interesting look into the early origins of electronic music.
Cheesy synthpop:
Ngiyakusaba - Brenda Fassie (1991; South Africa)
Always - Erasure (1994; UK)
Life - Haddaway (1995; Germany)
New York City Boy - Pet Shop Boys (1999; UK)
These are more dance-oriented songs that were made for the club. If you're looking for something more upbeat and danceable these songs are great.
Low-key, relaxing:
O-We-O - Boom Shaka (1994; South Africa).
Children - Robert Miles (1995; Italy)
Thula Thula - Trompies (1995; South Africa)
Ngiwelele - Sun-El Musician (2020; South Africa)
Ophelia - PinkPantheress (2023; UK)
Not saying that it's impossible to dance to these songs but if you want something that you can kind of nod your head to while doing light work or something to listen to on the bus home?
Upbeat and modern:
Nogonondo (Radio Mix) - Mandoza (2005; South Africa)
Bulletproof - La Roux (2009; UK).
Goodbye Cruel World - Shaa'ir + Func (2010; India)
I Love Music - Lebo Mathosa (2006; South Africa).
Strobe Last - Siinamota/Powapowa P (2011; Japan).
Zero Hour - Dualist Inquiry (2016; India)
Charlotte - Prince Kaybee (2017; South Africa)
Jerusalema - Master KG (2020; South Africa)
These are more upbeat songs that are high energy and have some level of danceability to them. Terrible for reading or studying, amazing if you're doing boring as fuck chores since you can get into a kind of groove while doing them.
