So we start with Pretty Lady watching the rocket blast away, taking off the smooth ring and putting it on a wedding picture of her and jeff (military jeff), and looking down through the window at soft jeff.

Then in a series of flashbacks we see a happy wedding with smooth rings. This is Pretty Lady and Military jeff's wedding. Then we have flashes of blindfolded jeff going up to meet her in the bedroom. I believe this is also military jeff. Wedding night maybe?

Switch to present - we see soft jeff making a wire ring, then proposing with the wire ring. She plays the blindfold game again but this time the Pretty Lady's surprise is calling back military jeff, we see her taking off the wire ring, putting back on the smooth ring and then we see military jeff's matching one.

We see confrontation between military jeff and soft jeff, and that the pretty lady is taking notes in the background, because she's in on it.

So the timeline looks something like this:

military jeff and pretty lady are in love and get married

clone/alien jeff comes into their life, takes military jeff's form in some way

military jeff leaves soft jeff with the pretty lady For Science, to see how much like military jeff this clone/alien/soft jeff is.

the answer is Very Similar Probably, because he also falls for jeff's Pretty Lady

Pretty Lady ends that part of the experiment and calls back her husband

Military jeff manhandles soft jeff and goes 'haha nerd, she's mine'

soft jeff makes extremely sad eyes

Pretty Lady decides she has a heart, and probably even loved soft jeff too, helps him escape.

The clone was missing. 

It didn’t escape on its own, that much was clear from the start. It couldn’t have. Wouldn’t have. No, someone set it free.

Any doubt in his mind evaporated when he turned away from the empty room to find his wife unwilling to meet his eyes. Guilty. 

“Are you angry with me?” she asked, confirming his suspicions. When he didn’t answer, she continued, “I couldn’t bear to see you hurt. You must understand that. He—he was you. I couldn’t just stand back and watch, anymore than if it had been you in—”

“I’m not angry,” he said, and drew her into his arms, where she belonged. Only days returned to Earth and he wasn’t used to the gravity yet. To the weight of her against his body. He held her close and breathed in the familiar scent of her perfume. Jasmine. Home. “Of course I’m not, darling.” 

“You’re not?” 

He ran a hand through her hair, settled it on the back of her head, pressed her into him. Oh how he’d missed this, lost among the stars for nearly two endless years. It still felt like a dream. 

“I created it for you.” He wanted her to have some small piece of him while he was away. He couldn’t bear the thought of her alone. But he was home, now; the clone had served its purpose. “This makes things easier.”

“You’re not going to try to find him, then?”

“The others will.” Of course they would, it was a priceless experiment on the run, and they wouldn't want to risk the technology falling into anyone's hands. But he wouldn’t be helping them. He didn’t want it back. 

“Will you create another one?”

I was trying to use my limited vocabulary to describe the tone of ghost. And I was having trouble until it hit me.

It's a decisive song. Like, lyrically we've heard fade (where he both tells them to fade but also that he'll never be okay), lucid (where he enjoys the time he has but knows it will end), stranger (where he accepts they are over but also wants just a lil more time), complicated (much like fade, he's arguing within himself in the song), dum dum (where he knows its unhealthy and wrong but still he's gonna find happiness) and so on

But this one is decisive, all lyrics are pointing to finality, to good bye, to making a decision fully with no regrets
