Funeral.
This is a meeting to honor the life and legacy of the ant 30303, now known as ghost ant, or phANTom. He was killed by MERM-ANT whilst asleep, surrounded by friends. A happy member always concerned for colony safety, knew about MERM-ANT, and was killed for his knowledge. Able to rest easily, as the murderer was caught by his best friend @satoshiap.

concept I'm working on (gotta doodle them more to really cement their design in my mind) The necromant! A ghost ant with a penchant for ghosts! Yes, yes, I know. Very original. They're timid and shy, but don't let that fool you- when backed into a corner, this little ant will summon up your worst nightmares... those you've loved and lost come back to haunt you.
They also keep a few ghosts constantly for protection and guidance, trapping them in a state of limbo and sometimes even channeling more energy into the ghosts to power them up!
Even they don't know their full strength, since they have to drain the energy of either living bugs or ghosts to do all this. Sometimes other bugs don't like that and get hostile and... they hate when that happens.

found some funky little guys on my desk the other day. instead of exterminating them, i typed 'black ant with a light butt', and finally learned the name of tapinoma melanocephalum, more commonly known as ghost ants!
they don't have stingers and generally only bite when their nest is in danger. when crushed, they apparently emit a smell of rotten coconut[1]. i have not had the opportunity to smell rotten coconuts yet but when i do, ill be sure to update the accuracy of the claim.
some more fun facts:
ants belong to the Hymenoptera, an order of insects having, when winged, four membranous wings. they also comprise of wasps, bees, ichneumon flies, and sawflies.[2]
the abdomen or stomach of hymenopterous insects is called a gaster. [3]
ghost ants are commonly found in tropical climates and find it more difficult to adapt to colder climates. [4]
