runs in the family by amanda palmer is one song that i just ALWAYS associate with helena bertinelli no matter what, the lyricism, the pacing of the song, the emotions (growing desperation, resentment, sardonicism, fear, etc) — all of it truly captures helena's relationship with her family especially after their murders, and other complicated truths like:

she may love her family but she loathes them too, especially her parents & everybody else involved in the mafia business, building up their empire of greed on the blood and backs of so many victims until they became victims themselves

she can't be present because she's always busy running from the past until she's torn into two halves

the historical, ancestral importance of the bertinelli family, especially with helena being a fourth generation immigrant, and the story of how her great grandfather from sicily came to end up getting involved with the mafia in the usa

the fear of becoming like her family and perpetuating the cycle of abuse and trauma
