What happens when a mysterious, beautiful ocean animal is found alive, but beached? 

The Creature in our film is an animal no one has ever seen before. Did you know that 95% of our oceans are unexplored? Both Mars and the Moon are better mapped than the ocean floor. 

Incredible things are living in the deep, from remarkable animals to unique bacteria that could be the source of life-saving new antibiotics. But with plastic pollution and climate change, we could be destroying sea life life faster than we’re able to discover it.

What is the film about?

The film is about an animal that washes up on Cornwall beach. After being found by locals it dies due to the plastic polution it experienced.

What is the message in the film?

The message in the film is about the affects that plastic waste has on marine mammals and wildlife.

How does it make you feel? Why does it make you feel those things?

It makes me feel bad for the wildlife as we as humans have always thrown plastic away without properly thinking about where it goes.

What camera techniques and filmmaking skills have the filmmakers used to convey this?

Filmmaking Skills

The filmmakers interviewed people who were that day so that they could share what the seen and emphasise the effect that plastic has. Children and families were also filmed helping the whale that washed up, cleaning it from plastic this creates the sense to the viewer that everybody should be helping and it should be a natural instinct for us.

The dog barking indicates that there is something wrong as they are leading the owner to the beach to see what has happened, this creates the effect that the other animals in the area know something is wrong up ahead.

Camera Techniques

At the beginning of the video an overview shot type is used showing a river beside Cornwall beach.

Those who were at the beach that day were interviewed by the filmmakers to explain what they saw and to put across the point, they all come across as shocked and speechless as they didnt expect to see something like that.

An extreme close up is used on the whales eye (1:18) that is seen to be watery putting across that it is sad. This is used to encourage the viewer to develop sympathy for the whale that has been stranded on the beach making them more aware of the problems of plastic waste.

A scene of all the locals at the beach has been included where they are looking over the whale. It shows them all taken aback because of the amount of plastic which surrounds the whale.

The sound of the whale that is included (1:49) seems as though it is distressed and in pain and this is encouraging those at the beach to help free it from the plastic so that it can breathe again.

There is a birdseye view included of the beach (2:25) which shows every individual who was at the beach stepping away from the whale as they realise it is about to die and that their help wasn't enough and it was too late for the whale.

A panoramic shot of the beach is shown (2:56) at the end as they started to explain that they let the tide take the whale back because they accepted that it didnt have any more energy left to survive and nothing more could be done as the whale had been hurt too much by the plastic waste.
