         It would have appeared like a yet another late evening in their house with the preparations for a night’s rest finished and the two men on their way to sink in the softness of the sheets and comforting warmth of one another’s embraces, much more advanced on the Swede’s side per habit and an unquenchable affection thirst ). The daily routine of removing the prosthesis went smoothly, and now a big piece of plastics and metals cluster that made Jaakko appear more symmetrical and feel less like a sore thumb standing in the society laid in a safe cover, waiting for another day of usage. Whether Berwald observed the course of those events or not, the Finn wasn’t bothered about, not anymore at least. Hadn’t his fiancé seen him in more conventionally embarrassing situations? Jaakko could think of at least two just from this week, and neither was suited for spreading forward to the curious masses. He smiled stealthily to himself at the memories; there was one more, significantly superior to the others, one he was still coming to terms with. The Finn could remember his Midsummer timidness very clearly as if his face was burning with the same flames now that it was when Berwald uttered those words he would have never expected to hear from anyone. Perhaps it was still reeling from the confession that possessed his mind these days. But was he going to admit to that? Definitely not.

         The mattress sagged under his weight as he sat down on his side of the bed. The springs received him with a metallic sigh, clearly a reminder of how often and how intensely this piece of furniture had been exploited by the freshly engaged men. Instead of letting himself submerge under the duvet, he remained seated with his back facing the Swede. His stubby fingers rotated the ring he was endowed with as he examined the details on it, just like he did yesterday and the day before. The pattern was soothing, peaceful feelings-inducing, and it almost felt like Jaakko wanted to learn it by heart. Just because of that reverie he wasn’t ready to join Berwald in a horizontal setting and submit to sleep. He knew his partner isn’t asleep even without looking at him, perhaps curious what’s keeping the Finn from letting himself rest at last. With a slight cracking sound, he stretched his previously hunched back.
