Just a few of my tools for my gemstone hunting. This way I can see if there are any bubbles in my Stones to spot synthetic stones. The quartz family is very common for synthetics on the market. So the first one is a magnifying glass that comes out and has a case that it slides back into and it has a UV light and also two very bright lights.
The second one is my Loupe. This allows me to see into the tiniest areas of a gemstone or any type of specimen it also has adjustable lights. And finally I have my little black light. There's not much difference between a UV light and a black light although there are some.
All three of these stores can help you spot synthetic stones or ones that have been heat treated. I also recommend getting a diamond detection tool and as well a ceramic plate to scratch for a scratch test and also some way to test specific gravity.
It's getting really difficult to figure out what stones are synthetic and what are authentic. People who manufacture fake stones have gotten really creative and even some have caught selling them at the Tucson Gem and Mineral show.
