| Starting 2015 out of Miami, Christian Carcamo brings his tunes as steady as the ocean waves. He’s dropped his debut EP (Steady Ground) last June and all three tracks off the album are to die for. It consists of tunes with strong vocals and a light electro-drum beat with some prevelant folk roots. Chris is a pretty diverse artist and I’m pretty excited to see what he creates next! Steady Ground is a must have for you rainy day music lovers.

ANDREW BELLE

I Won't Fight It (Hushed) – Andrew Belle

Andrew Belle made the move from Illinois to Nashville in 2009 and has been working on his music career ever since. He also floats the waters of the windy city from time to time which only adds to his reach. He’s released quite a few EPs and his debut LP (Black Bear) was dropped last year. Black Bear is a collection of folk tunes with electro beats. Two months ago, he released the Black Bear Hushed, which consists of songs of the original album, but with a focus on vocals and a chilling ambience. Think of it as the acoustic version of the album. I adore the hushed versions as they allow me to take in the lyrics in a way I couldn’t before!

Sidenote: His first single Pieces from Black Bear was written for his wife!

KIRA ISABELLA

Heaven – Kira Isabella

Country music is a very selective taste for myself and Kira Isabella slips through the tracks and into my playlist. This twenty-one year old Ottawa native can really sing with cowboy boots and blue jeans like the best of them. Kira recently released her second album Caffeine & Big Dreams which makes bolder steps compared to her debut (Love Me Like That – it’s a pretty great album!). She flirts with soft rock occasionally and I get that Nickleback vibe, but then you get to a song like Quarterback and you reminisce Taylor Swifts’ earlier work. Her songs’ lyrics really can hit you where it hurts. Kira’s got the talent to make it big and I’m surprised she’s one of Canada’s best kept secrets! Dream big and work hard, that’s Kira’s story and her album Caffeine & Big Dreams is a testament to that.

KUBA OMS

Sounds like: Ben Harper, Fenech-Soler, Cash Cash

Out of the coastal waves of Victoria, BC, Kuba Oms brings a jazz-soul-funk twist to a modern age beat. With familial musical roots, he began to singing covers at age 15 and created quite a repertoire of music. His 2011 single Electrolove spun him into the Canadian spotlight, getting modest radio play. Although it has been nearly half decade since the release of his debut album How Much Time, Oms has come back punching with his much-anticipated second coming, ADHD. Released in March of this year, ADHD is a vessel of his on struggles with the disorder and you can definitely hear how the music differs from song to song. Each song is great and I’m loving the album. It’s quite Jon Bellion-esq if I do say so myself. He’s going to make you get off you seat and dance! So what are you waiting for?

CLEMENCY

Sounds like: Lord Huron, General Ghost, Weslynn

Oh Nashville, you’ve outdone yourself. Clemency is the wonderful masterpiece by brothers Jason and Paul Watkins. The Watkins brother rock roots, but their recent music has been more chill. Don’t let that scare you though. Their songs Take Your Place and Boys’ Choir are upbeat and full of hope (which, might I add, really embraces the band’s name)! Originally from Oklahoma, the brothers picked up instruments to stay out of trouble and thank God they did. They released their debut album (Vapors) in 2008 and now they’ve come out with a cool concept for their upcoming EP. You’ve Got the Fire, a six track EP will be released February 2nd, 2015 and it’s a bit different from Vapors. First off, the band plans to release 6 corresponding videos to tell a love story that should keep us on the edge of our seats. Second, the music is gentle, but heavy hitting and I can’t wait to hear the entire album. Their music might have developed differently over time, but it’s adapting and growing in its own right. Be sure to check these guys out (both old and new stuff)!

Dear Rouge

| Vancouver’s Dear Rouge are going to be the next big thing! Drew and Danielle McTarggart are the two halves of Dear Rouge and there’s nothing I love more than couples making music together. Within a few (hardworking) months of releasing their first EP, the band won $102,700 in Peak Performance Project (aka the place where I find awesome music) and since then they’ve been gaining attention all over North America. Signing with Universal Music Group last month has gotten them a whole bunch of connections that most other artists struggle to gain. But don’t let the big record deal distract you. Dear Rouge is an amazing band with a electro-rock beat that will make you jump out of your seat. Their debut full length (Black to Gold) is scheduled to come out early next year and the little tastes we’ve been given have got me incredibly eager to get my hands on it and make a full review! Their creative process is not what you’d expect from a married couple. They’ve been in different rooms and had email correspondence while writing tunes. How is that even possible? They’re on tour with Wildlife so make sure to get your tickets before they’re all sold out! Toronto Tickets are only $10!!!

Side note: The name of the band comes from Danielle’s hometown, Red Deer, Alberta.
