kayfoun (the area my mom's family stayed in the winters and to shelter outside of beirut) got bombed last night. the zionist entity "targeted a hezb office," but it was a huge explosion and this wasnt the only airstrike last night. from my experience visiting, the area is mostly natural fauna between residential homes built by families that are still there generations later...beirut was shaking from all the bombs, they could be felt all over, even when the strikes were over 50 miles away from the city...
kayfoun is beautiful and lush with flowers and cedar and fruit trees everywhere. every home is encompassed by a garden, the orange blossom scent is almost intoxicating. the soil is rich and orange and clay-like. adorable kittens toddle their way between houses and children playing soccer. the sun dances on the mountains lined with homes and rich green cedars and colorful homes. it's one of the most breathtaking places ive ever been in my life. it's a peaceful town on the edge of the mountains away from the hustle and bustle of busy beirut.
i just wanted to share how i see the beautiful living land they are trying to desecrate. there's enough dehumanizing propoganda about lebanon, i think ppl should research the history and beauty of these places being destroyed. baalbak is historic, a world heritage site. my ancestors are buried there. my grandmother, grandfather, and everyone they have grieved, theyre all burried there. i dont even know if the graves are still intact because noone has been able to go check.
being lebanese is holding space for this mourning and love for the land and our beloveds, always.
