This late summer step down in temperatures happened fast. Last week, I had to watch the High Temps and now I need to watch the Lows. My Colacascia threw a fit over the first cooler night and killed off two leaves. I’m not worried (that’s my canary in the coal mine of my outside plant collection), just observant.
I had to water most of my container garden daily all summer because it was regularly over 85F and now we won’t see that again until June (hopefully not in May!).
My local meteorologist says we’ve exited “Solar Summer”, representing the 90 days around the solstice with enough daylight hours to create a heat dome. I think it’s pretty neat seeing it happen and knowing the process that makes it happen.
Here and there, I see leaves on the ground.
Summer feels really and truly over.
