We've a new friend in the yard! Some kind of solitary ground-nesting wasp, most likely a golden digger wasp (Sphex ichneumoneus). I like her! She's not aggressive at all.
Spent today planting and working on digging in this new pathway. Also mowed the pathways in the meadows (which mostly follow the dogs natural running/play patterns when let loose in that space). Been noticing so many more pollinators this year which I am attributing to my dedication of adding native plants from the past few years but also to our decision to not mow the meadow last year all summer. Not only are the natives in the no mow areas more developed but I think it’s easier to see what you have when you let it grow out.
