Hi I'm new to the game and don't know much about the lore so could you give some information and headcanons about Tyra? Thanks :)
Tyra! I used to play Tyra way back when she was first released and Iâd like to think I still know a few things about her.
First, your kit:- Auto Rifle. This is a short to medium range weapon that fires fast and has a pretty decent accuracy, but has incredible damage fall off which is why she does best up close to medium range. She puts out A LOT of damage at 120 damage per 0.09 seconds. And she can do headshots, making her extremely lethal if you know how to manage yourself.
- Grenade Launcher. This is getting an update in OB59 to increase itâs projectile speed to 400, which is almost double than what it last was, and increasing itâs projectile size by 16% so youâll hit more things. This deals 700 damage and is fantastic when you want that extra damage or youâre in a bad spot and need a way out.
- Hunterâs Mark. Mark your enemies for 6 seconds. This reveals their location to you and they will take +15% damage from your basic attack. This means marked enemies only take increased damage from your Auto Rifle and nothing else. They will still take 100% damage fron your Fire Bomb and Nade Launcher, but your rifle does 115% damage to marked enemies. This is very useful to have, but has a 15 second cooldown so you need to know when to use it - usually when youâre sure you can take down your enemy or really bite a gopd chunk out of their health for someone else to finish off.
- Fire Bomb. This is probably the most useful of your kit, because it reduces healing by 50% and takes 9% of the enemyâs OVERALL health over 0.6 seconds. And continued contact with the fire refreshes this effect, so if you catch enemies in a choke point with this you can take down a lot of health.
- Crossfire (Ultimate). You gain 40% attack speed, 40% movement speed, and firing does not consume ammo for 4.5 seconds. This might seem a little underwhelming at first, but with the right cards abd combined with your Hunterâs Mark and Fire Bomb, you can easily clear a full tank, or multiple weaker enemies. Timed right, you can team wipe.
Now if you notice something, itâs that Tyra doesnât have a movement ability unlike most other champions. Does that mean you buy Nimble 3 as soon as you can? No. Because Tyra outputs damage so fast and in such great quantities, sheâs designed for you to take down your enemy before they take you down. Even as enemies are fleeing with their movement abilities, chances are you can take them down because Tyraâs lowest accuracy is 89%.
But the lack of movement ability means that you are susceptible to Flanks and high-mobility Damages (Drogoz, Willo, Bomb King, Viktor) and auto-aim champions (Lian, Lex) to prioritizing you as a target because they are aware that you canât get away as easily as other champions can. Snipers (Strix, Kinessa) are likely to pick you off only if you are alone or there are no more important targets (Tanks, Supports) to target. Sniper-types (Cassie, Sha Lin) are likely to leave you alone or only engage from afar because if close enough, you can overpower them.
Tyra functions well on most maps because she is a standard auto rifle-type champion like Viktor, but because of her kit, excels at maps with lots of choke points (Jaguar Falls, Stone Keep, Brightmarsh, Ice Mines). Open air maps (Frog Isle, Serpent Beach, Frozen Guard) are her weakness due to her lack of movement ability so she can be easily sniped or tracked by Flanks and high-mobility Damages.
Competitively, Tyra is not a popular pick because she has a high skill cap and often times only good players or those who know her very well can manage their health. Because her kit is so damage-oriented, chances are you will find yourself playing quite aggressively and forget to manage your health. Take note of which supports you have on your team - this will give you a gauge on hpw aggressively you can play. Healing-oriented supports (Mal'Damba, Jenos with the Celestial Touch legendary, Ying, Seris) will allow you to play more aggressively since they can heal you fast and for a lot. If you only have utility supports (Pip, Sniper Grover, Grohk), my advice is to play as if you donât have a support so you watch your health more often. Of course, do not entirely rely on supports to help you. As a Tyra, you are a low priority heal target. Most supports also tend to have a âheal the tank onlyâ mindset and chances are, unless you have a support that you know playing with you, most supports you run into are not going to help you that often.
Tyra does have cards that increase her survivability. Iâm not that familiar with her loadouts, but I know one of her most useful cards is the one that gives you health if you kill your Hunterâs Mark target. If you find yourself unable to survive on your own, I suggest getting a loadout that gears yourself towards getting as much health and movement speed as you can.
Legendary wise, Tyraâs best is First Blood coupled with Life Rip. This really increases your survivability and right off the bat you get 30% life steal with the legendary (40% if your first item is Life Rip). You can opt for Mercy Kill if your Nade Launcher shots are highly accurate and can deal a lot more damage that way, but only if you hit. Hunting Party is the poorest choice because you are giving up your legendary on the hope that your team knows how t0 follow up on your marked target. Chances are, they wonât because every class has a different priority target.
Well that was long. As for just any headcanons about Tyra, you can search the blog for #Tyra and everything including her will come up! I donât wanât to make this post any longer than it should be.
Good luck, and welcome to the Realm!
