So the price I’ve paid for my freelance work has obviously been that my posting rate dropped off the cliff even more. That said, I have no intentions of abandoning Daily Planescape and am making a conscious effort to give you something each month (and hopefully more).
This time I am presenting you with something different from my usual fare. I’ve been working on a database of Planescape NPCs for quite some time now but recently migrated it to Google Sheets, which means I can share it with other people. You will see both classic Planescape NPCs and Planar NPCs from Pathfinder in this doc, along with the book they come from, the location they inhabit and their various allegiances. I will eventually get around to adding NPCs from 3.5 as well since sources like the Fiendish Codex and Savage Tides abound with planar characters.
There’s also another useful tool in this document, even if you aren’t playing a Planescape game. One of the last sheets is an index of statted Pathfinder NPCs. Why? I’m an adventure path subscriber, but I rarely get a chance to run a full AP. I do keep subscribing for the world building Paizo does in their adventures, but also because each adventure is basically a mini-NPC codex as well. I can pluck stats out an adventure and use them for my own NPCs. This is especially useful when adapting 2e Planescape NPCs to Pathfinder because I don’t have to reinvent the wheel and build them from scratch. Instead, I can use an already written NPC who is close enough or give a pre-existing NPC an extra level or two. Now, finding exactly what I need isn’t always easy, so yesterday I started indexing a couple of sources so that I can find what I need quickly. Hopefully, it helps you too.
A few notes on this document before leave you. First, SPOILERS ABOUND! The stats and allegiances for NPCs new and old are summarized in this doc, so be wary if you hate spoilers. Second, this is an absolute living document and work in progress. Some pages don’t have lots of information yet. Some pages have actually been outdated by recent Paizo books and need to be updated. It will change over time as the gaps and ommissions are filled in. Finally, this is by no means definitive. It is my interpretation of Planescape. It may disagree with yours. That’s okay. As long as it inspires us together.
