My dad taught me that when faced with a problem or situation you don't know how to solve at first, to always tell yourself, "there is a way, and I'll find it". Well, it took me quite some time, frustration, nearly giving up and a lot of work but I did it. Following my dad's wisdom, I did it. I brought my old, crappy Alcatel back to life! Well, it wasn't actually "dead", but because of how old and outdated its original version of Android is, KitKat 4.4.2, I could no longer sign in with my Google account after I accidentally signed it out weeks ago when I was doing some cleaning up of my sessions on PC. Due to how old that version of Android is, sign back in was impossible (and God knows how hard I tried!). As such, I could no longer use Touch Portal on it to use this phone as a streamdeck.
I bought the full version of Touch Portal years ago and always used it on this phone for my livestreams and some other things, but without the Google account signed in, the full version license of the app cannot be applied so I had no access to all of its features that I came to depend upon (the free version is extremely limited). Though I no longer use this phone for that purpose since I bought an used Samsung smartphone a few months ago to use for work and as a replacement for this Alcatel as my streamdeck (the Samsung runs Android 15, btw), I still wanted it as a backup/alternative streamdeck, should I ever need or want it, but without my license, it was no better than a paper weight. But I did it. I got it to work again! :D
After a lot of trying on the stock ROM, then trying to install another version of Android on it and failing, then succeeding but having it run so slow the phone was unusable, I finally managed to find a ROM that works, is not too old my Google account can't be added to it and on top of all, it runs smoothly and fast (I think the phone is now less slow than it used to be with the stock ROM, Android 4.4.2) and makes the phone fully usable again!
I've installed a custom Android 5.1.1 ROM, in case you are curious (CyanogenMod 12.1, to be exact) and it's been working so well so far (minus a couple minor-ish bugs that do not impact on the phone's usability). Well enough that I am actually considering to use the Alcatel as a streamdeck on my next livestream to see how it will behave and how well it will do it.
