Griffember day 2 (#83) - Chinese monal (VU) [male]
Bear griffin! I can look at photos of these birds forever; their colours and iridescence is just incredible. The male's call, however, is described by eBird as a "rusty door hinge", so I guess no one is perfect.

the wild turkey (meleagris gallopavo) is a large north american game bird, one of two extant species of turkey and the heaviest member of the order galliformes. there are only two species of ‘true’ turkey - the north american wild turkey and the central american ocellated turkey. turkeys typically flee from predators by running, but are stronger in flight than many assume, and roost nightly in tall trees for safety. their population is of least concern, and the wild turkey remains one of the nation’s most popular game birds. wild turkeys travel through a variety of habitats as long as woodlands are nearby, but prefer to remain near oak trees (acorns are a favorite food). females are solely responsible for incubating an average of 10-15 eggs per clutch for 25-31 days. while turkey young are precocial and need little help getting on their feet, females continue to brood them at night for several weeks after hatching to help them stay warm.

Ahh, finally all the holiday parties and prep and shipping and travels and colds (and more colds) are over, and I can get back to work on my projects. I've been fantasizing about getting back to "my projects" like an old lady yearning for time to watch her soap operas. Time to hunker down and draw animals.
