do you get a lot of interaction with threshold!au or do you carry on despite? Because from my perspective it's pretty popular and I'm trying to carry on despite with my ds9 fic π₯² I love threshold!au
not as much as i used to, and i honestly think a lot of that comes down to just wanting to draw more indulgent OC-focused stuff now rather than janeway/chakotay content or even episode-centric content which i had a larger focus on back when i started with the au. eventually you run out of episodes to highlight lol. and if i go into books its even less familiarity. i think subscribers are naturally prone to latching onto things that they're familiar with and OC content is like, very risky typically unless you have the backing to support your own work blah blah blah.
people can just naturally lose interest in things overtime as well like i never expect my followers from the start to stay with it for so long and its understandable when they drop off. coming up on 4 years fixated on one thing is kinda crazy haha. even ive dropped off from just kinda running dry on ideas at this point haha, but i still try and id honestly love to delve into some more Prodigy timeline-focused stuff, it was kinda left off at an odd place though haha RIP.
i have pretty limited experience when it comes to OC/canon but i find it's some of the rarest content to get people to engage with, similarly to making some pretty indulgent AU-looking versions of canon characters lol, unless you already have the reach which i dont. :^) if anything, my advice would just be to do what makes you happy and that any kind of reach you get is a gift and not an expectation. when i started with my AU stuff, it was sheerly for my own enjoyment and i had little hope of getting any reach with it. it sometimes veers away from that mindset for me and i have to remind myself that it's all my content really needs to be at the end of the day. :)
