“Gaider” in debug script for random encounters. Also Shale’s crush on Sten was so unexpected but definitely worth wandering Orzammar for.

Old conversation on Twitter about how to separate a spirit/demon from a mage, such as the case with Anders/Justice, and if tranquility would work (it wouldn’t).

Random Encounter: Gaider
I just stumbled upon a random encounter in the toolset that apparently never got fully implemented (at least there’s no script for it).
It’s somewhat tragic, really, as one would have met this guy:
as well as these people:
So we have two spoiled and demanding female minors (one a little more Dudley Dursley than the other, that’s characterisation right there), one male minor who is wicked, one male minor who is slightly “off his rocker”, and one male adult who is magnificent.
Considering what the players’ reaction to this encounter was expected to be, I really don’t get why this wasn’t in the game proper:
Or maybe not.
(Although the dialogue for this encounter does sound somewhat familiar...)

Eggheads delight in torture
Trickster Whim
“An amoral entity of the Fade which delights in observing corporeal and emotional discomfort. A dangerous preference, given that such creatures have little understanding or interest in the fragility of mortal flesh.”
Shartan
“the People heard the truth in Shartan’s voice, and some cursed themselves and their fate and despaired. And others began to fashion spears and bows from the branches of trees“
Solas
“Thus I freed the elven people, and in so doing destroyed their world.”
David Gaidar
“And let’s say we did do another betrayal plot and there was fan rage about it… so what?”
“I’d rather they enjoyed the twist, even if it was enjoyed in the kind of twisted sense where you love the pain, but regardless it’s out there now.”
Love the egghead or hate him. Either way he will break you.
In all seriousness, though, on some level every writer injects a bit of themselves into the characters they create, and I absolutely believe Gaider envisioned what Solas would be, long before his writing was ever passed on to Patrick Weekes. So take this as tongue-in-cheek or as a “Well, here is this theory about what motivated Gaider to create Solas”.
I guess only the Maker knows if I am onto something here or way off base, and he’s unlikely to share his secrets.
Can you think of any other shifty eggs? Let me know!
