Varigo week day 5: “Hold Still” (@varigoweek2026 )

this one is probably my favorite conceptually. Likely not the direction the prompt intended but I liked this idea so I ran with it. The premise is that Hugo is nervous on his wedding day, awww.
I drew this traditionally and then cleaned, assembled, and colored it up in krita. Some of the drawings dropped in quality a bit so I included the nicer sketches below.
I have a tendency to assume all my ships would get married, just because I always saw people getting married as a little kid it was always presented as the ideal (though I know I’m not unique in that. Autonormativity and shit) I do genuinely think, though, that Varian would likely want to get married. It’s what he was raised on and while it’s not the one true way or anything it matters a bit to him. Hugo doesn’t really care either way but appreciates the promise of it all, as does Varian. Till death do us part and whatnot. (Hugo likes the festivities too) I’m also not gonna lie and say i don’t love wedding fashion and drawing it with my own spin on it.
It took a while after the canon plot but I like to think Hugo and Nuru figured out how to brotp eventually. They kind of remind me of Cass and Eugene that way. She’s Hugo’s best man or something, idk that kind of role. Yong and Eugene are in Varian’s wedding party (is that what it’s called???)
I think in their adult designs the height difference would be less intense but Hugo is kind of towering over Varian here because he got married in platform heels. Because of course he did (and by “of course he did” I mean “of course I put him in heels” they’re fabulous leave me alone). I didn’t draw a lot of it but trust me, their wedding outfits are embroidered to the moon and back. Courtesy of Rapunzel. I mentioned this in my day 3 post but flowers and embroidery are very Tangled/Raps to me (especially on her friends). And of course she insists on doing a wedding portrait.
I do really like these wedding/future designs so I’ll need to revisit them in more detail at some point
