My hot tip today for people with adhd who want to read more is to make it as easy as possible to be wiggly while reading.
I put a rocking mechanism on my recliner and put the chair in my kitchen (and got rid of my table bc I hated sitting at it), covered it in a chair cover and comfy blankets, and truly it's the best change I've made to my home in maybe years? I can rock if i want, change positions in my little nest so easily, and it's right next to my little tea station so if I want more tea or need more sugar or whatever, I don't have to walk past anything that'll distract me to get it - i just stand up and it's there.
I also made this setup ultra-cozy to try and keep myself from bringing every meal over to my computer to eat, which then just made me play too many video games or fall into a youtube abyss in a not-fun way, and that's also been working well. I truly cannot describe how wonderful it feels to sit down in my little nook next to my plants and eat a meal in the sun, with either a book or a short youtube video on my phone. Like. It's perfect.
I do still love my audiobooks and podcasts for sure, but a lot of the books I want to read aren't available on audiobook through my library, and there's something I missed so much for so long that reading a physical book gives me that I'm so happy to now have back. I fought my way through 2 physical books last year, and they were wonderful books and I wish they hadn't had to have been fights.
Anyways, I finally finished a book my friend gave to me a year ago, and now I'm looking at my bookshelf with excitement for what I'll read next instead of misery at the stories I didn't think I'd ever experience. It feels incredible ^^
