(Same anon) about putting Bugs in situations, I wonder how you would describe a game of Mafia (in France we call the game Werewolf) between the Beatles! Tysm
Oooh this is so fun!!
Let's say there are five players (John, George, Ringo, Paul, and Brian) with George Martin (GM) moderating. We'll play the version with one Mafia player and everyone else as Villagers.
Here's how it plays out (rules under the cut for those who don't already know):
Rules:
In this game the moderator selects one player to be the Mafia, and the rest are Villagers. Each player knows only their own role (usually everyone closes their eyes and the moderator walks around and taps the Mafia on the shoulder.) Every "night" all the players close their eyes and the Mafia points at one villager to eliminate, and every "day" the group tries to guess who the Mafia is and votes to eliminate one suspect from the game. The Mafia wins when all the Villagers are eliminated, the Villagers win when they correctly identify the Mafia.
NIGHT 1:
Paul is killed.
DAY 1:
Brian, John, George, and Ringo remain.
Everyone is surprised that GM didn't pick Paul to be the Mafia, since he picks Paul for everything else. John sarcastically suggests that GM doesn't understand the game and no one is the Mafia, and when no one laughs he repeats it more insistently. Which also doesn't get a laugh.
This prompts George to accuse John of trying to obfuscate the situation because he's really the Mafia, and John in turn accuses George of being a stupid bitch. He thinks George is making fun of him because the joke wasn't funny, though George didn't actually know it was a joke.
Things get heated, and Ringo tries to defuse the situation by suggesting they put it to a vote. John and George, of course, vote for each other. Ringo apologizes but says that he's voting for John because of the whole "there is no Mafia" thing.
The obvious move at this point is for Brian to vote for John. John is clearly the most suspicious, and Brian would have both Ringo and George on his side. As far as he knows it could be anyone, so why complicate things by voting for George and forcing a tie?
Brian votes for George.
It's not favoritism. Well, not entirely. He has to work with these people after this, and John is significantly better at making his life hell.
This leads to a second ballot, which leads to George immediately switching his vote to Brian because what the fuck. Brian wisely (but belatedly) switches his vote to Ringo, who won't take it personally like George and John would. John votes for George again, and Ringo sidesteps a tie by voting for Brian.
The Brian votes win 2:1:1, and John, George, and Ringo remain.
NIGHT 2:
No one dies.
DAY 2:
John was kidding before, but now he's convinced that GM doesn't actually know how to play this game. He's annoyed that he and George got into a fight for no reason, but he doesn't want to say that, so instead he complains that GM is wasting their time.
But George is starting to pick up on something.
The Mafia started by killing Paul, which heavily implies that it's John. And John did get angry when George accused him, but then, John gets angry about a lot of things. And this person followed it up by killing no one.
It occurs to George that if the Mafia had killed a Villager last night then today would be 1 v 1 with both sides knowing exactly who the Mafia is. Which is basically a tie.
But if the Mafia held off and got the Villagers to eliminate one of their own today, the remaining Villager could be killed on Night 3 and the Mafia would win outright.
He's certain the Mafia is playing the long game and trying to get a clean win. And that doesn't really sound like John.
Not that John isn't clever, but he's pretty mad at George. There's no way he wouldn't have killed George off last night, in the same way that George certainly would have killed John.
Which leaves Ringo. Who would absolutely be clever enough to start with Paul to put suspicion on John. Ringo was sure to get someone eliminated by the end of the day, and didn't seem to care who it was. Plus he's more than patient enough to drag the game out a little longer just to get a clean win.
George eyes John, who is still bickering with GM. Ringo is insisting that the three of them do another vote, as if he's just trying to move things along. "We'll vote in alphabetical order," he's saying. George knows Ringo is expecting him and John to vote for each other, and then Ringo, the last vote, can break the tie in either direction.
"George, that means you vote first," Ringo prompts. His face is deceptively smooth, but then, George knows he's an excellent liar.
George is pretty sure John would believe all of this if he explained it to him. He and John could eliminate Ringo, the Mafia would lose, and he and John could share the win.
Alternatively, he could continue to vote against John. Then Ringo wins and George loses, but so does the guy who called him a stupid bitch.
He's not aware that John already regrets getting in a fight. He is very aware that John will never apologize or admit he went too far over a dumb game.
It's an easy decision.
"Sure, I'll vote first," George says. "I think it's John."
