Oh, for sure. Trauma is trauma, it just changes depending on how you cope in the end.

I like to think while Whisper still has nightmares or will spend some of her time sitting, thinking of all that has happened to her and all she didn’t do. But she’s adjusted and accepted how much of an effect her role had in it, and continues to have in what happens around her. She can only influence so much and everything else is out of her control. She still saves people and fights “the bad,” but has a healthier understanding that what she can’t control isn’t the same as that thing being her fault.

Tangle has coped with it well enough, too. She helped Whisper and Whisper helped her since they are partners and spend a lot of their time with one another and want to see each other grow. So as she’s grown up she’s just learned to accept that what happened has happened and it was terrifying and it hurt her and sometimes continues to hurt her, but instead of that weighing on her she can just accept it as being horrible and continue moving forward. She can’t change it, and it’s over, so the best thing for her was to accept what happened and keep pushing forward for a better future.

Sonic’s more or less the same, just with the addition of struggling with that whole ‘my mercy caused a disastrous plague’. But he, too, can only accept what happened and move on. He spent more time sitting on it, thinking about what could’ve been different, and in the first years after the Metal Virus it was self destructive, but when he got through that he learned to see the whole thing as a mistake- catastrophic as it was- and grow from it.

Initial impressions:

Scary, frightening, awakening, emerging, water, fire, isolation, a phantom pain, anger, punishment, growing stronger toward end as you succumb to the change, realizing you can finally take back your power, you’ll have your revenge

Her enemy had bargained with the crone in the Forest of the Fallen for the power to destroy her people. She gazed upon the devastating fire through the gates of her village; it raged across their fertile land, destroying everything in its path.

 She watched helplessly as her people died agonizing deaths in their fields and with a heart-wrenching sob, she quickly hid in the underground jail, abandoned since the ancient war.

 Once the fire had passed, she ran through the dying land, screaming herself hoarse as she searched in vain for survivors.

 As the last of her people, she understood what had to be done. She crossed into the Forest of the Fallen to seek out the crone.

 The crone’s twisted smile did not diminish her resolve. The bargain she struck was more than she could imagine, but not more than she was willing to pledge. The crone warned her that her enemy took all of the fire magic—there was none left to be used as a weapon. She told the crone grimly, “Not an issue. I know what power I need.”

 Once she returned to her people’s once-bountiful lands, she used her newfound power to breathe life into the deadened earth.
