Lot # 601. Hand-Colored Brian Froud Stellar Concordance and Hand-Painted Gelfling Stellar Illumination Artwork - Sold on Propstore.com, Apr 1, 2025
"Greater stellar concordance artwork and Gelfling stellar illumination artwork, the former hand-colored and the latter hand-painted by conceptual and creature designer Brian Froud for the production of Frank Oz's and Jim Henson's The Dark Crystal.
Rendered on paper, the Gelfling stellar illumination artwork is annotated "57.4%," "B," and "162" in pencil in the bottom right corner. The greater stellar concordance is rendered on a piece of blue acetate, hand-colored in brown ink, and adhered to a card panel.
The Gelfling Stellar illumination appears on page 32 of The World of the Dark Crystal book, which states, "the design of the piece pre-dates the Division of urSkeks and the darkening of the Crystal, though the style of execution is indisputably of a later period. The piece when made must have represented a hopeful memory rather than a known experience." The greater stellar concordance appears on page 33 of the book, and it describes it as "one of a number associated with the observatory, believed to have been cast by Aughra herself." Dimensions (greater stellar): 21.5" x 22.5" (54.75 cm x 57 cm)"
