Ive gotten a lot of questions about this, so I'll just explain it here.
Robinsong named himself Noclaw after losing his leg. He still has his claws, because the people who took him in during his time as a kittypet were experienced with cats and wouldn't ever declaw one.
(WARNING: (fictional) animal injury below!)
Robinsong made a mistake and let grudges get to him. Not trusting one of his clanmates, he followed them to the train track cutting the Snowclan territory off from the twoleg place. Following his clan mate, he didn't pay attention to the track. He noticed a train right on time to save his life, but not his leg. It was mangled by the train, and he went into schock.
The clanmate he was following heard his scream behind them, and pulled him away from the tracks. There, the cat called a cat they were secretly visiting. This cat was a barn cat, and they alerted their twolegs.
The twolegs took Robinsong to a vet, where his damaged leg was removed and he was neutered. After recovery, Robinsong was brought back as a barn cat, but decided to return to his clan.
Out of shame for his mistake he named himself Noclaw and stayed in the medcat den for a while. He realized he wanted to help the clan atleast a bit, though he still felt useless, and became Frosttail's apprentice. Frosttail didn't want him to suffer from his mistake any longer, and on announcing his new apprentice, changed his name back to Robinsong.
(also to those curious, Robinsong is based on a real cat I met. She also has an amputated hind leg, but lives like any normal cat, except that she seems scared around humans. Here's a picture of her!)
