One Year, 3 Hours, and 7 Minutes
One Year, 6 days, 2 hours and 33 minutes ago I said, "See ya soon bud." in a facebook message.
One year, 3 hours, and 7 minutes my best friend took his last assisted breath.
On April 29, 2012 one of my closest friends got into a car accident. Not just any car accident, a drunk driving accident. He and his best friend, whose name I will not mention, were driving home. Ian was in the passenger seat, and his best friend driving. They hit a mail box, and spun into a huge tree, completely mutilating the car, and my friend.
I'll save you all the gory details, but the two boys were both rushed to the hospital, Ian barely alive and our other friend in shock. He was put on life support after his whole lower body was crushed, had lost a great bit of blood, and was completely in a coma.
At 11:47 my best friend Ian was taken off of life support, his face unrecognizable, and his family surrounding him.
I didn't know my friend was in a morge until 3:37 pm, when I got home from work, all smiley and thankful for a warm day. I was faced with the news, and deleted him on Facebook, just catching the last glimpse of our conversation from a week ago.
Because of work, I was unable to go to my friends funeral. I never got to say a real goodbye, and because of my move, I hadn't seen him in 2 years.
I will never see Ian again, but I am blessed to have his memory engraved in me. We ate lunch together ate school, and he lived a block away from me, so we spent summers at the pool together, and he was always in my yard. He was in my boyfriends friend group, so I literally saw him everywhere I went.
I miss him so much. Please don't let your friends drink and drive, no matter if you are with them or in another state.
And if you can, please wear pink in his memory today, it was his favorite color. Also keep his family, friends, and community in your thoughts today.
To Ian, I love you and I miss you so so much. And I will see ya soon bud.
