After visiting the Shi Family Mansion, it was already past noon. Getting a ride from the old street took a while, since almost no one accepted our request in the app. My husband searched for restaurants nearby, and at first he wanted to try a European-style full course meal. After a bit of discussion, we both agreed that it would be better to have something local. He found a place with great reviews, and the moment he saw their fried chicken ad, he made the decision right away.
When we arrived, the restaurant was already packed. The waiting list was in the late twenties, and we got number fifty-one. My husband almost gave up, but the restaurant was clever enough to have a TV showing their signature dishes. Just as he was about to change his mind, the screen flashed a golden, crispy fried chicken glistening with spices. So we decided to wait.
It turned out we didn’t have to wait long-- less than an hour before we were seated. We ordered spicy fried squid, stuffed eggplant in red sauce (锅塌茄盒), and of course, fried chicken. Everything was delicious, truly living up to the restaurant’s motto: “Who says home-cooked food has no brand?” (谁说家常菜没有品牌)
