Philippe de Vitry’s Petre Clemens/ Lugentium Siccentur.
Any time I see a French medieval composer, I am sure to like the music. But then again, I am a fanatic for anything to do with the French language.
Late last year, I was introduced to medieval composers from France whom I had not heard of before (my knowledge being limited to Guillaume de Machaut, Gilles Binchois, and Philippe de Vitry).
I find music from this era particularly suitable for long writing periods, so if you are a writer, consider returning to the Middle Ages!
Sheku Kanneh-Mason plays a beautiful Élégie by Gabriel Fauré. The key is C Minor, from Opus 24, and this piece was arranged by Parkin. As many in the comments’ section have noted, Kanneh-Mason puts a world of feeling into his playing, and is a delight to hear.
Frédéric Chopin’s beautiful Funeral March.
Guillaume de Machaut - Se j'aim mon loyal ami

A new composer whose work I discovered today: Cécile Chaminade, a French poet and composer. While being one of the few women composers in her day, her works were financially successful. It’s time for her work to be better known today. Hugely enjoyed these enigmatic pieces!
Guillaume de Machaut- Amours me fait désirer et amer
Guillaume de Machaut- De Fortune me Doi Plainder et Loer, along with a beautiful illustration of courtly love in the medieval era.
