Para a Torre. 1961. Towards the Tower Com um forte senso de movimento e expectativa, Para a torre compõe um tríptico e, assim, pode ser entendida como o primeiro capítulo de uma historia. Segundo artigo de Ricki O’Rawe e Roberta Ann Quance, o quadro nos dá conta do inicio de uma jornada de liberação e auto conhecimento. Aqui, Remedios Varo se refere à rígida educação que recebeu em uma instituição católica - representada pela monja - bem como sua resistência à ela e eventual fuga.
As alunas são praticamente todas iguais nesse estágio, com exceção de uma, a unica a nos encarar e que é o personagem principal dessa aventura. Os outros dois quadros da composição nos contará sobre o esforço dela em busca de sua própria individualidade. Após abandonar o colégio/internato - espaço opressivo e hierarquizado, que não aleatoriamente se assemelha a uma colmeia - o que nossa heroina encontrará na Torre para onde se dirige? ********* With a strong sense of moviment and expectation, Towards the tower is part of a triptych and, being so, can be understood as the first chapter of a story. According to a Ricki O’Rawe and Roberta Ann Quance’s article, the painting is about the beginning of a journey on liberation and self-knowledge. Here, Remedios Varo refers to the ridig education she had in a catholic institution - represented by the nun - as well as to her resistance and final escape. The pupils are all clone-like, excepting the only one that actually gazes back to us who is the main character of this adventure. The other two paintings of the composition will give us an accont on her quest for individuality. After abandoning the (boarding) school - oppresive and hierarchized, which cunningly looks like a beehive - what will our heroin find in the Tower she is heading to?
