Thoughts on Agency
Conservatives often proclaim your life is purely your fault. I disagree. You don’t have complete agency — but you have some. Victim mentality, a Marxist viewpoint, denies we have any. But to say we have complete agency is to say we are God. We are, to a certain degree, determined by the world around us and controlled by the habitual vice we allow to mobilize within us. That is a burden we must bear as humans. We might not have the agency to instantaneously free ourselves of something, but we have the agency to search out a cure or accept the outreached hand of another. We have the agency to pray, but if we had complete agency, we wouldn’t need to. This is what the right and the left both get wrong. To say we have complete agency is as foolish as it is to say we have none.
💬 DISCUSSION: Would you drink from the Fountain?
The Fountain of the Blessed in Aurel. One drink and you're happy. Truly, completely, blissfully happy. No more pain, no more doubt, no more fear.
The catch? You stop being you. Your will dissolves. You become a smiling, docile sheep — literally.
Eternal happiness at the cost of free will.
Honestly... would you drink?

Why do perfect decisions not lead to a perfect life? Discover how uncertainty, free will, and imperfect choices shape personal growth, resil
Imagine a future where an AI could predict the perfect decision every single time.
No more mistakes. No more regret. No more uncertainty.
At first, it sounds like a dream.
A man trusts the machine with everything. It chooses his breakfast, his clothes, his route to work, even the words he should say to other people. His life becomes smooth, predictable, and almost flawless.
Then one day he accidentally meets a woman.
The AI immediately warns him to walk away because years later the relationship will end in heartbreak.
Instead, he throws the machine away.
Because he realizes something no algorithm can understand.
Life isn't valuable because it is free from pain.
It is valuable because it is free.
The people we love, the risks we take, the mistakes we survive, and the unexpected moments that completely change our lives can never be reduced to statistics.
Sometimes choosing uncertainty is choosing to remain fully human.
💬 DISCUSSION
In Chapter 7, Grace binds Janus's life to his destiny — without his full consent. She does it to save him, but it means he can never walk away.
Was she right to do it?
She saw a boy drowning in darkness and made a choice for him. A choice that saved the world. But also a choice that took away his freedom to quit.
Is saving someone against their will an act of love or control?
