But a rear wheel with 24 proprietary straight-pull spokes isn't going to last forever, so I've taken advantage of the reduced price Hope hubs currently for sale on Merlin. I've been swapping the 135QR Pro 2 between six frames for the last 17-18 years; the original aluminium freehub got chewed up within the first year, replaced by a steel one that hasn't skipped a beat since.
This new Boost 148 hub has 32 spoke holes and a steel HG freehub straight out of the box (I've no interest in the expense and anecdotal faff of 12 speed). Of course, even at sale price this one hub costs more than my current Mavic wheelset! But, built into a strong rim, the resulting wheel should see me out. Buy cheap, buy twice...
New freehub and new tires. there was nothing wrong with the freehub , but the paws were worn. I tried to buy just them on ebay but when I installed they weren't the right size so I gave up and decided to buy the whole set.
