Chapter 2 — The Campus Flirt
By Wednesday morning. The entire campus had witnessed Satoshi Gojo getting rejected by you three days in a row. And yet somehow he still came back. "Morning, Princess." You didn't even look up from your phone. "You're late. Satoshi blinked. "Late?" "You usually bother me at eight." He looked at his watch. "Wow. you noticed." The second the words left your mouth, you wished you could take them back. His grin was blinding. "You noticed." He repeated." I noticed you were interrupting my morning routine." He let out a laugh "So you do pay attention to me." You roll your eyes "I pay attention to loud noises." He let out a dramatic gasp "Ouch!" Shoko arrived just in time to see Satoshi dramatically clutch his chest. "She got you again?" Satoshi sighed. "I think she enjoys hurting my feelings." You smiled sweetly. "I do." Satoshi looked at her "That's mean." You take a sip of your coffee as you say "They don't call me the Queen of mean for nothing." Satoshi smirked. "I call you Princess, don't ?". Look at him. Blank expression. "Go away Satoshi." But efore you could walk away a girl from the dance team hurried over. "Satoshi!" He turned with that same easy smile he seemed to give everyone. "Morning, Aiko." She gave him a big smile "I heard you scored thirty points last game." He let a chuckle "Lucky shots I guess" She giggled. "You should celebrate with us Friday." Satoshi smiled. "We'll see." She lightly tapped his arm before leaving. "Alright, see you Satoshi, Bye!" He waved her goodbye. "See you around." You watched the interaction for exactly two seconds before looking away. There it was. That effortless charm. That smile. That laugh. Like breathing came easier to him than everyone else.
As you and Shoko walked toward your next class, she glanced sideways at you. "You're thinking." Frustration evident on your face "I'm not." Shoko sighed. "You get that wrinkle between your eyebrows." You refuse her "I don't." "You do." You sighed. "He really is like that with everyone." Shoko was quiet. "For the most part." "What does that mean?" You ask a bit confused as to what she was implying. She shrugged. "I've never seen him chase anyone." You frowned. "He isn't chasing me." Shoko stopped walking. "(Y/N)." "What?" Shoko had a serious look on her face. "The basketball captain has crossed campus every morning for three months just to annoy you." "Because he thinks it's funny." You deadpan. "You keep telling yourself that." She says as she knows you are hopeless.
Meanwhile at Jujutsu Phi House. Sukuna was eating cereal straight from the box. (Like the muncher he is). Toji had somehow convinced Choso to arm wrestle him. Suguru was reading. Nanami was pretending none of them existed. Satoshi walked in carrying two coffees. Immediately every head turned. Suguru looked at the second cup. "Is that... hers?" Satoshi looked down. "...Maybe." Sukuna burst out laughing. "Take a look at this fool!" Satoshi huffs "What?" Satoshi frowns as Satoru walks in. "You bought y/n coffee again?" Satoshi looks at his brother " yeah, So?" Unlike Satoshi, Satoru was a well put together nerd. He didn't quitr understand why Satoshi was sp fascinated by such a mean girl. "So she rejected you yesterday." Satoahi smiled "And?" Satoru was frustrated "And the day before that." Satoshi shrugged ignoring Satoru. "She drinks caramel lattes on Wednesdays." The room fell silent. Nanami slowly lowered his newspaper. "You know what day she drinks different coffee?" Satoshi blinked. "Yeah." Toji started laughing so hard he nearly fell off the couch. "You're gone." Satoshi laughed "I'm not gone." Suguru smiled. "You've memorized her coffee schedule." "I just... noticed I guess." Satoshi rubbed the back of his neck. Sukuna pointed at him. "There!" "What?" "You did the neck scratch." He says laughing "So?" Sukuna asked "You only do that when you're embarrassed." Satoru says. "I'M NOT EMBARRASSED" Satoshi yells embarrassed. "You absolutely are." Satoru chuckled.
Back on campus you were shelving books in the library when someone placed a warm cup beside you. Without looking up, you smiled. "Thanks, Shoko." To your surprise you a all too familiar voice saying "No problem, Princess." Your smile vanished. Slowly. You looked up. Satoshi. Of course. "You followed me to the library?" He laughed "I prefer to say I'm visiting you'" you rolled your eyes "I prefer 'leave.'" He pretended to think. "Hmm" he chuckled "No." You sighed. "You are unbelievable." "I get told that a lot ." He nudged the coffee toward you. "Extra whipped cream and chocolate drizzle, just how you like it." You stared at it. "Uhm how did you know?" He smiled. "You always order extra whipped cream after student council meetings." Your heart skipped. Again. It was such a tiny detail. One you didn't even realize someone could notice. He smiled softly. "Figured today would've been stressful." And for just a moment you forgot to be sarcastic. "I don't know what to say, thank you." His grin widened. "You're welcome." Then, before either of you could say anything else. "Satoshi!" A cheerleader waved from across the library entrance. He turned automatically. "Hey!" She smiled brightly. "Don't forget Friday!" He smiled "I won't!" She blew him a kiss as she walked off. He laughed awkwardly and waved before turning back to you. But it was too late. The warmth in your chest had already cooled. You looked down at the coffee. Of course he was like this with everyone. Why had you let yourself think otherwise? Satoshi noticed the change immediately. "y/n?" Your expression annoyed "I'm fine." He frowned "You don't look fine." You sighed. "I said I'm fine." "I have to go." You say you picked up your books. Before he could stop you you walked away. Leaving Satoshi standing alone in the library, watching you disappear between the shelves. Leaving him wondering "What did I do?" From the entrance, Satoru had seen the entire exchange. He had come to the library to get a book for his astrophysics class and saw the whole thing play out. He walked over and sighed. "You really don't get it." Satoshi looked at him. "Get what?" He sighed "To you, that was just being polite." Satoru glanced toward the aisle where you'd disappeared. "To her.." He shook his head. "It probably looked like she wasn't special after all." Satoshi's smile slowly faded. He finally understood the problem. And he had no idea how to fix it.
The next morning Satoshi did something he had never done before. He didn't laugh (flirted) with a single person. "Morning, captain!" A volleyball player smiled as she walked past. Normally, Satoshi would've smiled back, thrown out an easy compliment, and kept walking. Today he simply nodded. "Morning." She looked surprised. "Morning?" He looked at her but didn't spare her his time. "I've got somewhere to be." He jogged off before she could answer. Sukuna who had witnessed the whole thing from across the quad looked at Toji. "Did he just not flirt?" Toji blinked. "I think we're witnessing history." Nanami glanced over his coffee. "He finally figured it out." Suguru smiled. "Took him long enough.
You were unlocking the Sigma Rose office when someone leaned against the doorway. "Morning, Princess." You didn't even look up. "What do you want Satoshi? " Satoshi laughed. "Nice to see you too". You unlocked the door and stepped inside Satoshi following close behind. You turned immediately. "Who said you could come in?" He laughed "You didn't." You looked at him "So why did you?" Still smiling he said "I took a chance." You waved your hands "You made a poor decision." As he kept following you he replied "I make those a lot." You walked over to your desk, pretending to ignore him. He smile faded "So.." not looking ar him you asked "So?" "You seem mad." He states "I'm not." He frowns "You've been avoiding me." A frown evident on your face. "I've been busy." He felt bad. "You left the library yesterday." You looked at him "I had things to do." As his frown deepens a said "You didn't even drink your coffee.
He noticed that ?
Satoshi plops down on the office sofa as he sighed. "Can I ask you something?" You watch him do so "If I say no?" He looks at you "I'm asking anyway." You rolled your eyes. "Fine." He looked genuinely confused. Baby blues shining as the light outside the window hit his face. As much as you to admit it he was cute. "Did I do something?" Your heart clenched. Because he sounded so sincere. Like he truly had no idea. You looked away. "No." You say voice unsteady. "Then why are you acting differently?" He asked still confused You laughed quietly. "I'm acting differently?" "Yeah, you've barely looked at me since yesterday." You wanted to tell him. You wanted to admit that watching him smile at every girl on campus made your chest hurt. But instead you folded your arms, because just a small part in your heart did not want to give in to the frat boy in front of you. "You don't have to worry about it." Unsure he shook his head "I am worried." You wavered asking "Why?" With a small smile he said softly "Because I hate when you're upset." The words came out so naturally that he didn't even realize what he'd admitted You did. You stared at him. "What? He blinked. "Nothing.." You took a step closer. Towering over him now "What did you just say?" He stood up as he scratched the back of his neck. "I just.. Forget it." The silence stretched between you. Finally you sighed. "Satoshi." "Mhm, yeah ?" He asked awkwardly "You smile at every girl on campus." He frowned. "So?" "So..." You struggled to find the words. "...How am I supposed to know when you're serious?" The question hung in the air. For the first time since you'd met him, Satoshi Gojo was completely speechless. He had spent months trying to make you laugh. Months bringing you coffee. Walking you to class. Finding excuses to see you. Calling you "Princess." And somehow, he had never realized you'd been comparing yourself to every girl he casually charmed along the way. He stepped closer, but not enough to crowd you. Just enough that you knew he wasn't joking. "Can I tell you something?" You nodded cautiously. "I do smile at a lot of people." Your shoulders slumped slightly. "But." He smiled softly. "I've never crossed campus every morning for anybody else." You looked up. "I've never memorized anyone else's class schedule. You didn't have any words. "I've never bought anyone else's favorite coffee." "And I've sure as hell have never called another girl 'Princess.'" Your eyes widened, a smile forming on you lips. He chuckled quietly. "That nickname has always been yours." You didn't know what to say. Because you'd never actually heard him call anyone else that. Not once. He noticed your expression. "I know I'm friendly." He rubbed the back of his neck again. "Maybe too friendly." "But I need you to understand something y/n." He held your gaze. "There are a lot of people I enjoy talking to." A small smile tugged at his lips. "But there's only one person I go looking for."
Your heart pounded.
Just then the office door swung open. "Satoshi!A blonde cheer captain walked in carrying a clipboard. "There you are!" She smiled brightly. "We still need you to sign the fundraiser posters. Satoshi sighed under his breath. "Oh, right." She looped her arm through his without thinking. "Come on!" He gently pulled his arm free. "I'll meet you there." Smile faltering she asked "Aww, why?" "I'm in the middle of a conversation." She looked at you for the first time. "Oh. Well just hurry okayy Satoshi" then she left with an awkward wave. You raised an eyebrow. "You didn't go." He looked confused. "I told you." You looked at him "What?" "I'm in the middle of a conversation." His smile returned. "And you're more important." For the first time. You couldn't think of a sarcastic comeback. You simply looked at him. And wondered if maybe he really had been trying to show you all along.
Outside the office, Sukuna who had been waiting for Satoshi witnessed the entire thing through the open window. He elbowed Toji. "He turned down the cheer captain."Toji grinned. "Our guy's dowb bad." Suguru smiled to himself. "He always did." They had no idea that the biggest test of Satoshi's feelings wasn't going to happen today.
