since the pulse shooting in my hometown, my closest friends and i are much more loose-lipped with it; it’s a new level of intimacy that, now that i have it with them, i wonder why it hadn’t been there in the beginning? you know, just like, “cool, i’ll talk to you later. love you,” before hanging up the phone. or cuddling on the couch and just, “i love you so fucking much, you know that right?” or even something that isn’t explicitly the L word. like, “i need you. hang in there.” and “please be safe.” so, i suppose the short answer is “fairly often,” but it’s only those friends. it’s not said to me very seriously outside of them.

20. would you rather be in Middle Earth, Narnia, Hogwarts, or somewhere else?

not hogwarts, specifically, but probably part of the wizarding world. is there, like, a wizard college or university or something? that would be rad. middle earth is too vast and violent, narnia is too much of an allegory, and, like…idk what other magical, mystical places are there?

can i just be, like, a werewolf so i can make sad noises at the moon and run through a forest naked and commune with dogs? or, like, a witch that can actually influence the nature of her energy with crystals? 

2. have you ever found a writer who thinks just like you? if so, who?

y i k e s. this feels like a loaded question, and i think answering it the way it’s phrased make me feel and seem a little too self-important. 

what i will say is this: i have met and worked with several writers who, through discussion and exchange, have helped shape the way i think and express myself. 

one of my key mentors is a guy named david james poissant, and his short story work really captures a lot of what i try to capture in my own writing–whether original fiction or fanfiction. he taught me to try to approach every situation and every character with empathy. it’s probably one of the single best pieces of advice i’ve ever gotten–professionally and personally–and one of the single statements that have impacted me the most.

freckle: do you have any marks on your skin? how do you feel about them?

i have freckles and birthmarks and they’ve always been there, so i’m kinda indifferent about them. i have scars, some self-inflicted, others not. the ones that aren’t remind me of how i wasn’t treated well. the ones that are remind me of how i didn’t treat myself well. i have tattoos, and those are conscious decisions to mark myself with art instead of, well, anything else.

dandelion: what’s a pet peeve of yours?

drivers who take 5000 years to find the gas pedal after the light turns green. seriously, am i the only one who wants to get where i’m going when i drive?

shocking pink: is there a trait that you have that others don’t expect from you?

sometimes i think people don’t realize that i’m as nice as i am. sometimes it feels like people expect the worst from me, so when i “take the high road” or “extend a kindness,” it comes as a surprise. :shrugs:

oh, and i remember about 75% of song lyrics after hearing the song twice. it’s…a problem.

i’m pathologically honest, and i consciously practice compassion. oh, and i write good and stuff sometimes.

honesty, conviction, open-mindedness. be authentic and genuine. no one can ever fault you for that.

good music. inspiration. friends as a distraction for when my wheels spin. oh, and fucking 100% pure, unfiltered, fresh from nature spite with no artificial flavors or sweeteners.

spring green: how do you relax when you’re stressed?

naps, typically. soft blankets, warm bed, fluffy pillows, cuddly puppers. sometimes i just need to sit in quiet. others, i’ll push myself to exhaustion with exercise.
