Cheyenne Jackson (Descendants, Glee, AHS) leads the show,

the series is written and produced by Rick Weiner and Kenny Schwartz (Modern Family, American Dad),

production on the 30 minute series began this Spring,

the series debuts this Fall.

First you cancel Andi Mack

Second you cancel the four dads show that was supposed to be on Disney+

Then you go and promote the .002 seconds of representation in ANY movie you make, because yippee, another movie about a straight couple, but at least we put a picture of her wife on the desk!

Then one of the most highly anticipated shows ( love, Simon series) coming to Disney+ because we thought that finally! The MAIN main character going through this sexual exploration on DISNEY. Nope. They moved it to Hulu for not being “family-friendly” enough.

Fine, whatever.

BUT THEN YOU GO AND RENEW BUNK’D FOR A 5TH SEASON. YES A 5TH SEASON. and that just added the cherry on top of the fucking cake.

And he’s a gay dad in real life too!

Actor-singer Cheyenne Jackson will star in the Disney+ family comedy series, “Four Dads.”  Jackson portrayed Mal’s father, Hades, in “Descendants 3.”

According to Disney, “The series will follow Ethan (Gavin Creel) and Sebastian (Jackson) who divorce each other and then separately remarry other partners, they must learn to parent their budding teenage daughters while avoiding the pitfalls of their two very different families.”

Pictured above are the four “dads” actors, Ed Weeks (The Mindy Project), Gavin Creel (Hello, Dolly!) Cheyenne Jackson, and Tuc Watkins (Desperate Housewives).  Creel, Jackson, and Watkins are openly gay in real life.

Jackson acted in the series “Glee” and “American Horror Story.”  He is also a Broadway performer, and known for singing in music videos with gay themes, which can be seen on YouTube.

In real life, Jackson is married to entrepreneur Jason Landau, and they are the parents of toddler twins.

I wouldn’t worry about Love Simon atm. We don’t actually know why Four Dads was cancelled but it would be naive to think that it had nothing to do with the rep since the whole show is focused on four openly gay married men; though unless we get some insider leaks we may never know how big of a role the gayness of the show played in it being scrapped . And it’s certainly not a good thing to lose a show that would have had so much textual rep this early on. I know that the initial reports earlier this year said that the show would begin filming in the spring for a fall release date but I’ve seen conflicting reports on whether they filmed just a pilot or an actual first season. If they did film more than just a pilot than it’s more likely that the cancellation was driven by fears of a homophobic backlash. 

That being said, I think Love Simon is in a safer position. It’s based off of a well known book and movie so cancelling it would attract attention and it’s unlikely Disney + would cancel their only other gay heavy series so soon after cancelling Four Dads. Love Simon also has an official instagram account and has finished filming their first ep; they even recast Victor’s best friend Mia, which is probably not something they would do if they were worried about being cancelled. And with Victor coming to terms with his sexuality it would be easy if they so choose to keep any dating or hand holding or kissing from happening until late in the season whereas with Four Dads there would have been no way to avoid showing the dads acting as husbands for very long. 

This is a sad reminder that progress isn’t always linear. We’ve seen that on Disney Channel, where they went from no rep at all to dipping their toes in the water with the lesbian parents on Good Luck Charlie in the penultimate episode to going full steam ahead with an openly gay main character on Andi Mack to now having no rep at all again and no real sign of it in any of their news shows.

He’s so careful with the little one,

So scared he’s going to break them!

Loves to nap with them.

Not great with changing diapers or when the baby cries.

Hands them off.

Gets lectured about being a parent,

And learns how to care for his new child.

Cannot be woken up.

So it ends up being a trade,

He gets almost all of the daytime duties.

Has his father’s warm smile.

Wants to be as great a father as he was.

So excited when the baby is born. 

He’s the most experienced with kids of the bunch. 

Can already change a diaper like a champ. 

So happy with his new family. 

Showing off the baby every chance he gets. 

So many nicknames for them. 

Truly a 50/50 parent. 

Will do much of the work, 

But also totally willing to let you join in. 

He’s so excited for the baby’s future!

All the Bros + a newborn

Utter chaos.

All of them adore the child,

But no one knows what to do. 

Ignis finally organizes everyone to have specific duties.

He cooks and feeds,

Gladio exercises,

Prompto photographs everything and plays,

And Noctis is in charge of a sleep schedule. 

They take turns changing the diaper. 

This kid is so well protected. 

And so loved.

Life is now utterly chaotic, but filled with love. 

Ravus

He really can’t believe he gets to be a father!

It’s all so unreal to him,

Until he holds his new child. 

In that moment,

He knows there is nothing he wouldn’t do for them. 

He will change this whole world to give them a brighter future. 

Needs help with his new fatherly duties. 

Doesn’t know how to change a diaper at all.

But he’ll always try his best.

Completely worried he won’t make a good father,

But will work his hardest to be. 

Luna

Is so happy to be a mother! 

Her newborn is her whole world. 

She’s expected to know how to do all of the duties that come with a child,

Like diapers and feeding,

But she has no idea.

(I mean, why should/would she know?)

But she knows when to ask for help.

And she learns quickly!

Loves to use her magic to create light orbs

For the baby to watch. 

Loves their every sound,

Every movement.

They are the sun to her now.

He loves the child with his whole being,

But he’s terrified.

He worries he won’t make a good father.

He’s too old,

He has too many other duties,

He doesn’t know how to do this!

At first, he’s very distant with the child.

Scared that they’ll become attached and he’ll die. 

But you convince him that life is about the moments we spend together,

No matter how brief those moments are. 

And then I’m not sure you could get the child out of his arms. 

His smile is so warm with them. 

Sure, he needs help,

But he loves them.
