I found a little fascinating historical clue at the Foundling Museum today... perhaps a little something for Mello.
In 18th-century Britain, when children were taken into foundling hospitals, they were stripped of their past and given entirely new names—a completely new identity. And historically, a lot of these orphans would officially leave the institution right around the age of 14 to be sent out into the world and enter the workforce.
Mello left Wammy’s House just before he turned 15.
It might just be a pure coincidence, of course (the Foundling Hospital is an 18th-century reality, after all). But living in the UK just means you are constantly stumbling upon these tiny historical traces—these little real-world echoes—that inevitably pull my thoughts right back to him.
