making my own clay from found clay.
I dug up the clay at a lake near me.
I purify it by slaking it stirring it up and then pouring the particles into a different container while leaving the heavy stuff at the bottom.
after slaking it two or three times I strain it through a pillow case..
I fired a test piece first to cone 05 and then to cone 6 it cracked slightly during the bisk firing but did fine under the clear glaze
I'm testing mixing my mid-fire white clay and the found clay 1:1 but I wouldn't mind advice on any other material I could add. I have some 50-pound bags of hawthorn bond and have considered adding some of that. I've also heard that adding sand can help make it more porous
