Have you read the name of the rose???
1. I absolutely adore medieval studies.
2. I love Umberto Eco
!Especially! Baudolino, The Name of the Rose, and The Prague Cemetery
And Foucault’s Pendulum too
3. So, naturally, the answer is yes.
(if you love The Name of the Rose, you absolutely have to read Baudolino)
old arts huh
(books and other media about monks and nuns are my guilty pleasure)
Griffith Observatory (Los Angeles, CA) - Foucault's Pendulum
"The Foucault Pendulum installed in the main lobby of the General Assembly building at United Nations Headquarters in New York, showing the 200-pound gold-plated sphere suspended from the ceiling 75 feet above the floor of the lobby and over a raised metal ring.” December 20, 1955.
Physics: An Exact Science. 1959.

Ask Ethan: Why Can't We Feel Earth Flying Through Space?
“I desperately need your help! Please help me explain to my husband why you can't feel earth flying through space!”
It isn’t every day that I get an Ask Ethan question that’s so dramatic or so simple. But this one struck a chord with me. If you didn’t know that Earth spun on its axis, revolved around the Sun, or orbited the galaxy and moved through the Universe, you probably wouldn’t believe it from your own senses. After all, you cannot experience the effects of it in an obvious way in your own body. Moreover, it’s extremely difficult to even devise an experiment to detect it directly. It’s true that we can’t feel Earth flying through space, but that doesn’t mean the motion isn’t real.
How can we detect it? How do we know? And, if we were more sensitive, what, exactly, would we feel as far as Earth’s motion goes? Get the answers today!
