Fighting to Change the Foster System
Fighting to Change the Foster System
 The Foster System
When interviewing Brenda Rosas, a foster parent, I realized that there are problems in the foster system that aren’t talked about, such as the way that foster children are treated in the system and how people aren’t educated about the system.
Firstly, it is important to discuss how children are treated in the system. In an interview with Brenda Rosas, who is a Foster Parent…

I was cleaning up some stuff in my studio and i found some papers from when i was being placed in foster care, or as this paper states it, Out of Home Placement Plan. This snipette really stuck out with me. It really makes me think of how much art has been there through out my life. It was a great way for me to, try, and express myself. Even though alot of the time, the art pieces i did and still do leave even more questions for myself and those who view my work. My art is an expression of myself and my constant evolving emotions. Its the best way i can communicate things, when words do not seem to work. I was very lucky to be placed with amazing foster parents who allowed me to communicate freely and were very accepting. Going through those times as a child/young adult, was a very difficult time, especially with being a bit older, 17, and finally being placed in the system. And i was able to express myself. For all of those who have gone through the foster care system, who work in the foster care system, and are currently in the foster care system, allow your emotions to be expressed freely, and healthily. You need that outlit to be yourself and to develop, well, everything. Alot of the time that is forgotten or pushed to the side and we tend to never go back to it. Everyone does. Thank you to those who read through this. And i hope my clumsy words made sense. . . #words #art #fostercare #foster #fostersystem #expression #outlit #throwback #cleaningup https://www.instagram.com/p/Bn7_D9QB_0U/?utm_source=ig_tumblr_share&igshid=877mha0xvwaj
I had a friend, I mean had As in we had a friendship break up recently, who was in the foster system for maybe 5-6 years of her life. I understand it's not fair being taken away from your parents but they were back in custody with them for a majority of their lives. I understand how fucked up it can be and how fucked up it can make you. But she is now 24 years old and is still using the foster system as a valid excuse for not bettering herself. She is continuing to play victim even though her twin sister who went through the exact same process is trying to make a home for herself with her husband. She's trying to make herself better. Now the friend again is trying to get disability/social security because she feels entitled to it because she was in the foster system. She had hardly held a part time job because she just doesn't want to work. Her idea of a good day is laying in bed watching YouTube videos and cussing people out that don't agree with her favorite channels. I don't understand. Does this seem fucked up to anyone else?

A Good Day
What a great refresher before the weekend! I got to school hung around there 2 hours before class. Completing my english HMWK! YAY! Had a great day in class but it's my favorite class so it's usually really awesome. Who else can say I go to a psych of the death and dying in fact when I say it people usually look at my like i'm totally weird!
We talked about this super cool ted talk and anyone who is going through depression and battles staying positive with the face of crap I totally recommend it it's by sean anchor a hardvard study on graditude. We had to write what 3 things we were grateful and I had already practiced that the night before so it was pretty easy. Someone in the class said they were grateful to be loved and I just so badly want to say that some day... I want to be grateful to be loved!Â
After class the teacher had stayed behind and talked to me for over an hour in a half! she knows my circumstances and someday we will write a book about this together! She actually is the one who inspired me to journal I just decided to blog so people can hear the stories now. She talked about some of my choices to help me find a place to live. In the state of idaho there is no resources once you turn 18 your officially an adult and the system no longer helps.Â
We talked about the military which would pay for a place to stay and school which is cool. I've just never been incredibly active so I don't know how that works. Church... because it's a community resource that can help me. Which would be a great thing for me a while back I went with my sister and I felt like it helped me with a lot of what I was going through. Then I just had no ride so I gave up. So I want to find some sort of church this week.. we shall see how that goes. Then she said one stop our student services should have something so we went and saw a guy together and that was no help. Other then he printed off a list of shelters and food places which was really cool.Â
Tona (My teacher) sat with me and called two shelters to see what they had to say about my situation. It was good. I think she picked up on my shyness. I'm horrible with calling people but good emailing and texting! I'm still trying to break a lot of my shell! We talked about applying for food stamps which I heard I had to do with an adult if I was under 22 but maybe I'm wrong. She's going to help me out with a job and possibly have a place for me to stay once I have a job this summer. So things actually were looking up! Its scary to hear what little resources are out there.Â
I got on the bus and a flirty guy offered me a job which is like some reseptionist deal. So that was pretty cool! I just had a lot better day then yesterday! Things are working themselves out... slowly it will all be solved out.Â
