Beloved Fomes Fomentarius Maybe our first fire. Maybe some of our first medicine. The variety that grows here in so-called Greece and Europe is sooo different from the ones growing on Turtle Island. Wider, softer and not just generally on Birch. When Greece was Nazi occupied, the fascists cut food and resources from the peoples of those lands. People starved in the streets, factories and farms burned, trains were bombed and only intensely remote areas kept autonomous areas during the war. Some on those resources were cigarettes. Greece loves their cigarettes and you better believe they def weren’t going to not smoke something. What did they smoke when the Nazis took their stash? Fomes! Or Ισκα! Greece was and still not given the proper compensation, reparations and historical narrative to be tied together to the fucked up damaged the Germans and the western warlords, cough cough, US corporate warmongers, pulled off in the 1930s & 40s. Practically the entire Jewish and Roma population was murdered, cities, ancient sites, temples, churches, synagogues and more we bombed and Greece is rarely put into the narrative of the disaster of WWII timeline and history. Now we still paying Germany and the Western banks but under a different name of austerity. A different kind of warfare. Class warfare. So much history in just the last hundred years and I’m proud and sad my living and transitioned ancestors, even my aunties fought those fascists. Wish they didn’t have to, and could stay connected to land based traditions and not be forced to leave their homes and more. No one wants to leave their home. Migrant crisis is a continuation of western imperialism. How is the endless war benefiting you? I doubt it does. How does fungi and the land benefit you? Oh so much. SO MUSH. Mycology is anti-fascist because we need no system but ECOSYSTEM! Nature provides it all and yet we still trying to go to Mars. That noise is a waste of time.
