How about Gadge, they go on a date but one of them doesn't know it's a date? <3!

I mushed these two together--hope thatâs okay!
Ever since his mother started working at the bookstore, she wouldnât shut up about the owner, Madge.
Madge suggested this book to me--I stayed up all night reading it, it was that good.
Madge has some really interesting thoughts about feminism and romance novels.
Madge was wearing the cutest skirt today.
Gale was happy Hazelle had made a friend. Â He really, really was. Â But he was confused as to why she insisted on talking about her so often to Gale, especially since it appeared Rory and Vick knew almost nothing about her.
âMadge is coming by tonight,â Hazelle announced when Gale walked into the kitchen. Â âSheâs staying for dinner.â
Gale furrowed his brow, confused. Â âShould I leave?â Â He came home for dinner every Friday, and it wasnât like Hazelle to have company over.
âOh no--but itâs just going to be the three of us tonight, because Posyâs at her friendâs and Vick and Rory are out.â
Gale picked up a piece of carrot and tossed it in his mouth with a crunch. Â Great. Â Dinner with two middle aged ladies. Â It wasnât that he didnât love his mother, it was just...not how he saw his Friday night going. Â
The doorbell rang and Hazelle looked up from the sauce she was stirring. Â âThatâs her. Â Mind getting the door?â
Gale made sure she didnât see his eyeroll and headed to the front door. Â He opened it to find a woman about his age clutching a bottle of wine. Â He stared, taking in her soft blonde waves and the way her dark blue top made her eyes seem bright. Â She was staring at him too, and he suddenly wished she was Madge, not the woman who was his motherâs friend. Â âWrong house,â he said, just as she said âRory?â
âMadge?â he asked incredulously because Madge should be fifty and greying, not in her twenties and...hot.
âYup,â she said, still standing on the front porch.
âCome in, come in.â Â Gale stood to the side and let her pass. Â âAnd Iâm Gale, not Rory.â
âAh, okay. Â I thought you looked a little old to be Rory. Â Shoes on or off?â
âOn is fine. Â Ma! Â Madge is here!â he shouted. Â
Hazelle bustled out of the kitchen, a look of slightly exaggerated concern on her face. Â âMadge! Â So good to see you! Â I hate to do this, but Posy just called and I have to go get her right now. Â But dinnerâs on the table, if you two want to get started without me.â Â She grabbed her keys from the side table and swept out the door without giving them a chance to protest.
Gale stared at Madge (again) and she stared at him (again) until he took charge and led her to the living roomâŚ
...which was now lit by candlelight.
Madge giggled softly. Â âDonât look now, but I think your mom is setting us up,â she said in a mock-whisper.
Gale scrubbed a hand over his face. Â âYeah, I, uh, I think so.â Â Now Hazelleâs comments made sense, but still. Â His mother was on thin fucking ice. Â But there wasnât really a polite way to get out of this, so he took the wine bottle from her hands and poured them both healthy glasses of wine. Â âRight. Â So youâre Madge,â he started as they sat down.
âI am. Â And youâre Gale.â Â She smiled and took a sip of wine. Â âI should have suspected sheâd try something like this--sheâs been talking you up to me for months.â
âYeah, me too.â Â Galeâs phone buzzed and he dug it out of his pocket. Â âIâm betting anything this is Ma, texting to tell me she ran into traffic.â Â He glanced down and sighed, sliding the phone over to Madge.
She laughed, and he couldnât help but notice that set-up or not, she was pretty. Â âSubtle. Â Real subtle. Â Iâm going to make her handle closing for the next month. Â If she wasnât my favorite employee, she might be in real trouble.â
Gale smiled and she smiled back, and they dove into what had to be the weirdest blind date theyâd ever been on.
