I think a lot less people would have misunderstood Papyrus as being ignorant/naive if his funny scenes weren't followed up by his brother taking a more serious tone to ask us to be nice to him. It frames Papyrus's shenanigans as less of a deliberate joke and more of a thing he simply can't help.
We know that Papyrus is not stupid, of course, so why does he act this way? Why does he act like Papyrus needs him to go behind his back?
(he says this in response to us saying papyrus isn't cool, but otherwise a funny thing to say cuz Papyrus uses a fair amount of sarcasm, which other characters don't seem to get he's doing, and if you don't get that someone is being sarcastic you might end up thinking they're stupid)
Maybe he's doing this "for" Papyrus because Papyrus pushes him to do stuff, so he feels like he needs to do something he can?
That said, weird how he expects us to also find it weird that Papyrus is being told flattery

“fanfic writers write whatever they want to read because they write for themselves”
I need to remember this!
Sometimes when I'm writing, I think like "Oh, wow, the readers would hate this. Wow this is so bad. Hahaha this is fucked up..."
But I should remember that I write for myself! Yes!!
A little vent(?), but I rarely get bad comment on my fic.
And seeing someone commented on my non-con fic and hoping another ending where the reader beat up the 'rapist' (read : Rufus), it's disrespectful for me. lmao.
Maybe they're just joking? idk. They don't leave kudos either, so I assume they don't like it.
More reason to write fucked up things.
And honestly, that fic is nowhere near fucked up.
Do people read hentai these days? No? I read lots and more fucked up things... 😅
I think people need to read hentai and see amazing things people draw and write so they know such kind of fiction is just meeeeh.
Random but I often read non-con smuts and lots of comments complaining about non-con content. Stupid.
idk if i reposted this image already, if so then ignore it lmao
Anyway. Gk sans is the one who will actually entertain what ifs and the more morbid thoughts. He does that a lot- he may not be the most suited for battle due to his fragility, but he observes and makes connections.
His father never really interacted much with him, that was left for his brother to do. He theorised that his father might have only seen him as an extention of his brother. Someone to compare him to. Where his brother was diligent, reliable and strong, he was lazy, had behaviour problems, and was too fragile to keep himself alive, as their father put it. The only time sans heard him acknowledge his brother's efforts was when it was to express his disappointment with how sans turned out. And that was the only time when *he* was acknowledged.
At least it sure felt that way.
It wasn't his fault that his brother turned out to be eager to please their father and was quick to meet the demands. Proved to be capable of not only taking care of himself, the household, but also of the problem child. Their father must have felt relieved by that. Indeed, he no longer needed to be responsible for them.
So, sans grew up under someone who was not an adult either, watched his brother becoming distant in a different way. He didn't mean it. He really didn't- but sans had done nothing but watch, and he noticed. The way his brother would avoid going to sleep, taking naps here and there, between chores. The way he stopped talking about any interests entirely. How, little by little, but it seemed like that one no longer had anything to say about himself. As if, he had nothing to exist for. Like he was preparing for when he would be all used up.
he grew resentful of his brother for that. But more than that, he's worried for him. Their father left, and his brother won't move when the water rises too high.
Let me say this first: this is not a hate post, & I do not think that having a thing with a substance makes someone a bad person and I suspect that some of the fandom is so resistant to the idea of Toriel having an alcohol problem because it's often seen as a 'bad person trait' and Toriel isn't a bad person, therefore she couldn't possibly have a problem. Yikes!
Anyway. She is consistently shown going overboard with drinking while the others around her (if any present) generally stay sober.
I will put a cut here cuz there's gonna be a long list of images
From the winter alarm clock dialogue:
this one might be a stretch, but it's possible that she drank alone in the Ruins too, because Flowey specifically mentions this after she falls asleep drunk at the party:
(man. this part always kills me. Flowey seeing his mom like this. ugh. How his and Chara's death affected her like this. He can't just go and say "hey mom I'm alive". But he leaves a glass of water with her. maaan..... )
from the 1 year anniversary QnA:
^this is pretty much the only time she's featured and there's a drinking mention
And, of course, the jitterbug scene from deltarune chapter 4:
she's very clearly intoxicated, while her new friend seems mostly sober (or at least I didn't notice any indication that he was in a different state)
also note Kris's reaction: while Susie seems shocked, Kris simply turns away in embarrassment/shame. (yes susie is also looking away here but i think she's rather looking at Kris)
Kris steps out of the way in time when their mom falls
Like. She's well meaning but ABSOLUTELY unaware of how her behaviour affects others. See also: the part about the winter party where she is playing with Alphys's arms
I don't think Kris is in the mood for pancakes after seeing their mom shitfaced, they probably just want to get away from the situation. And judging by their reaction, this is not the first time they see Toriel like this- this is a Thing she Does. Whether it be a frequent thing or only at celebrations and therefore rare, every time she's been mentioned having alcohol, she's also mentioned as having had too much, in strong contarst with the others also present.
I don't really have a takeaway from this, other than this being more of her dealing with her problems through some form of avoidance. And, again, I'm not calling her a bad person. But she's not doing as well as she is trying to present.
loudly thinking
i wonder if it's so widespread to headcanon that Papyrus was raised by his brother with a very big age gap (so sans was a teen when Papyrus was a baby) because that way sans can have all the cool knowledge about gaster, timelines, whatever, and Papyrus can remain blissfully oblivious to all the things that are 'cool' to know. Even thought there is evidence in canon that Papyrus [also] takes care of sans, looks out for him. And evidence that Papyrus is hiding a lot of things and knows more than what people give him credit for, including his brother. Wouldn't it be more fun if both of them knew things, and both hid things from the other?

it's been 9 years i think we can all collectively agree now that Flowey has never been a master of psychological manipulation.
No shame to him, he's a kid who's been recently awakened from death and probably became very socially detached thanks to the nature of resets,
but you can't tell me that Papyrus didn't/wouldn't have caught on if he had been planning to take the souls at the end of true pacifist. Flowey is not a good liar. In any case, this does lead to monsters being freed, so was Papyrus really wrong to play along?
And who's to say this all wasn't Papyrus simply playing into whatever would set Flowey on the path he takes in true pacifist, trusting that the human and him would work it out? Flowey can have his power display and then realise what really matters. sometimes you gotta work through your problems the hard way
local kid with zero issues of abandonment/isolation whatsoever
one of my favourite themes to explore is when characters do things out of good intentions but end up doing a lot of damage in not-so-obvious ways.
Also I like it when characters make mistakes and hurt others. perfection would be boring, but when someone hurts another even though they wanted to help? ooohhh, that's fun. Also fun when it's clear why the character did what they did, based on who they were and their circumstances up until now, it makes sense that they made that choice, but they shouldn't have. maybe I just want to see what I think is there but I think undertale and deltarune both have a lot of this kind of theme, and I try to incorporate this into my AUs as well.
I'm very curious what deltarune is going to do with the parents going forward because so far there seems to be a theme of none of them being quite what their kids need. truly the teenager experience if there ever was one.
I need to put Carol Holiday under the microscope. I'm not gonna say "there's something wrong with this woman" because we all have eyes, right. It seems like she's busier trying to preserve things like her missing daughter could return at any moment, meanwhile her living other daughter gets locked out of the gate. How's that for a metaphor?
Undertale already had themes of people coping kind of horribly with grief (Toriel isolating & Asgore declaring war) and now we have a third parent doing some third unhealthy thing. Very fitting, too, she's winter themed and you put stuff in the freezer to preserve them with the cold.
SO anyway I would absolutely not put it past this lady to be involved/in contact with the knight. She literally owns a sword!! That she uses!! She's definitely more than just some strict parent with an office job.
