"To tell me youβre pregnant."
At least a minute had passed since he said that.
A full minute and the two of you were still staring at each other, waiting for the other to speak first.
"H-How⦠H-How do you know?" You manage to gather the strength to speak first.
"So you really are." He curses.
"How do you know?" You insist once again.
"I know you, woman. I know you like the back of my hand." He says and releases the hands that were holding your shoulders, looking you up and down. "You look exactly like you did at the beginning of Alyssaβs pregnancy."
You sigh and grip the sink, taking a deep breath. "I am." You confirm.
"How long have you known?" He asks seriously.
"Not long. I found out today before coming here." You say, remembering how you barely had time to process the news before Alyssa dragged you out to go see her father. "Maybe Iβm not even pregnant. I only took one test, the result could be wrong. Iβll take another one."
Sukuna clicks his tongue. "Nonsense. Youβre clearly pregnant."
You feel offended. "Maybe I just gained a little weight."
"Iβm not talking about your body." He replies immediately. "Iβm talking about your expression. Youβve been pale since earlier, you looked at your favorite pasta like someone had spit on your plate, then you came to the bathroom and threw everything up. Weβve been through this before."
"How are you so calm?" Disbelief fills your voice. "You know the baby is yours, right?"
"Of course I know, Iβ" He starts, but you interrupt him.
"Why are you so sure about that? It might not be yours. Youβre assuming I canβt get other guys?" You snap, indignant, almost offended.
He sighs and rolls his eyes. "God, you really are pregnant." He says, looking at you with boredom. "Fine. Since you want to be sure, letβs buy another test, go home, and clear all doubts."
You agree, and he starts guiding you out of the bathroom. Alyssa finds you there, standing with a waitress both of you know. The woman had become a friend from how often you all went to the restaurant. Your daughter hugs you and asks why you were sick. You answer that you ate too much candy last night and suddenly felt unwell. She doesnβt believe you and says youβre lying to make her hate sweets. What a complicated girl.
You were feeling better, but spent the entire drive worried you might throw up in Sukunaβs car. He didnβt seem to share that concern, but asked if you needed the bathroom when you stopped at the pharmacy to buy the pregnancy tests. You said no and grabbed five tests. Sukuna made a face at you but didnβt question it, just paid for everything without complaining. You scoff. It was the bare minimum after getting you pregnant. God, you were already getting angry just looking at his face, just like during the first pregnancy. He must have noticed, because the smile he gave you was absolutely wide.
When you arrive at his house, Alyssa had fallen asleep. She never handled car rides very well. That was good, at least. You would have privacy to take the tests and then talk to Sukuna. You put her in bed in her room and then go to the bathroom. You look at him strangely.
"I need to pee." You say as if it were obvious.
He looks at you with boredom. "I literally shaved your entire body. And now youβre embarrassed to pee in front of me?"
You just roll your eyes and decide to ignore his presence. You do what you need to do under his attentive gaze and place all the tests in your urine.
"Now we just wait." You say, and he nods, looking at the little sticks expectantly.

"God." Thatβs all you manage to say.
Sukuna was looking at you like a child who had just found an enormous tower of candy. "Weβre going to have another brat." His smile was huge.
You were still in shock. Now everything was real. God, now it was really real. You pick up one of the tests, as if needing to confirm the object was real.
"You know what this means?" You ask, exasperated, almost breathless. The hand holding the test trembled, as if squeezing it could make both it and the situation disappear.
"That my cum is extremely potent?"
You want to punch him in the face.
"No, you idiot, it means thatβ"
He kisses you. And silences you. The exact kind of kiss meant to wipe your thoughts away. The kind that makes you forget what you were about to say. Makes you forget who you are.
You lift your hands to push his chest away, but your hands donβt do that. No, they rest against him. Slide up his abdomen until they settle on his shoulders. That works as encouragement for him to deepen the kiss. His tongue doesnβt ask for permission, it only warns that itβs coming in, that it will enter. It always feels right when his lips are on yours. It felt like home.
Sukuna tasted like home.
Sukuna tasted likeβ¦
Ex-husband.
You snap out of it. Your hands finally push him away. The kiss breaks. He pulls back. "Sorry, hormones." He gives you a roguish smile.
"Iβm the one whoβs pregnant!" You say incredulously. If anyone could blame hormones, it was you. He just shrugs.
Before you can spiral into another existential crisis, Sukunaβs voice calls you.
"Hey!" You look at him. He says calmly, "Relax."
You calm down with just that one word.
"Weβve been through this before, and back then it was worse, and we made it work, didnβt we?" He reminds you, and you nod. "There. We can do this. We always can. Look at Alyssa. We made a perfect daughter. A sweet, adorable girl. Everything worked out. It wonβt be any different with this little boy."
You frown. "How do you know itβs going to be a boy?"
"I dreamed about it." Sukuna boasts.
"You dreamed I was pregnant?" You ask, shocked.
"No. I dreamed you were begging me to get you pregnant while weβ"
"Okay." You interrupt him. God, why did you ever expect decency from him?
"But seriously. Youβre an amazing mother to Alyssa. Thereβs no reason for that to change this time. Go easy on yourself." He says softly.
You pout, your eyes filling with tears. Why did he have to be so understanding? Damn pregnancy hormones. You canβt hold it in anymore and start crying, tears streaming down your face as you turn your back to him. He grabs your hand, turning you back to him, and settles your face against his chest. You allow yourself to cry there. Allow vulnerability to take over, just once. You deserved that.
"Shhβ¦" He strokes your hair while you cry against him. "Itβs okay. Iβm here."
You donβt even know what youβre crying about. You donβt feel regret, not even a little. The idea of the pregnancy no longer feels absurd. In fact, it makes you happy. Imagining another mini version of you to brighten your life. Imagining Sukuna being a wonderful father to another child again. You wanted to live that.
You wanted to live that under different circumstances.
Ex-husband.
You compose yourself and step back, wiping your tears. Sukuna lets you go. You look up at him. "I hate you."Β I hate you for being so good to me.Β Those words are never said out loud.
"Yes, yes. You hate me so much that youβre carrying another one of my babies in your womb." He smirks mockingly and you push him, smiling.
"Weβre not getting back together."
"Not even a little." He agrees.
"We need to tell Alyssa." You remember. How would she react? Would she love the idea or get jealous? You remember once when she commented on how all her classmates had siblings and she didnβt. She had seemed sad. Maybe this could be a gift for her. But you also think about how she would handle it. She already knew her parents were separated. They werenβt real girlfriends and boyfriends like some of her friendsβ parents. She had two houses. Alyssa liked to say that to everyone. She had two beds, double the toys. That way of thinking had been put into her head by you and her psychologist. It helped her deal with her parentsβ distance, showed her only the advantages of the situation. You feel like crying again.
"Yeah." Sukuna agrees. "Sheβll be happy, Iβm sure. The other day she told me excitedly that a friend from school now has a baby at home."
You smile at that. "Yeah, she told me too."
Sukunaβs phone rings. He looks at the screen and curses something. It was late at night, so it was probably work. His work. You didnβt involve yourself in it at all. The less you knew, the better. He had always told you that, and you had always agreed. You didnβt want to know, so you didnβt ask.
"An emergency came up." He looks at you, then asks, "Will you be okay?"
You wipe one last stray tear from your face and nod. "Yes, yes. Iβm better. You can go, donβt worry about me."
He studies your face, and only when heβs sure youβre fine does he turn to leave. You follow him to the front door and open it for him. Before stepping out, he tells you, "Weβll tell Alyssa tomorrow. Wait for me. I want to be there when she finds out." You nod, and he finally leaves.
You sigh and sit down on the couch. Your hand goes to your belly.
You werenβt so desperate anymore.
