Logan didn’t used to enter the dark side of Thomas’ mind at all. That has long since changed.
At first, it was out of curiosity. He wondered what the differences were between the mindscape and the dark side’s home, and what the dark side’s rooms might be like. Or, what they did in their free time. Did they all spend time together, like the light sides did?
He tried to do this in secret, unsure of whether or not the dark sides would be hostile towards him or want him to leave. Though, Logan wasn’t exactly a ninja, and the dark sides weren’t idiots, so this didn’t last very long.
The first to find Logan out was Remus. Logan had entered their kitchen, sure that no one else was in the room, when the dark side of creativity suddenly popped up out of nowhere. Logan jumped, falling back against one of the counters when he felt the presence beside him. Remus didn’t seem nearly as taken aback by the logical side’s appearance in his home. A grin spread across his face, and he leaned in close.
“Well, This is new!” Remus chuckled, looking Logan over. “Are you lost, little boy?“
Logan blinked a few times, standing up straighter. “Ah, no—“ his words turned into a small yelp as Remus lifted him into his arms, spinning him around in a circle. He cackled does a few seconds, then looked up as another figure entered the room. Logan swallowed, narrowing his eyes Deceit smirked at the two of them.
“Ah, then I guess you’ve fallen down from the clouds and tumbled into our dank little well, then?” Deceit stepped closer, gesturing for Remus to set Logan back down, which he did.
Deceit used a gloved hand to lift Logan’s chin, tilting his head and giving a warm smile. “Or, are you just sticking your nose where it doesn’t belong?”
Remus cackled, sinking down just so he could pop up again right behind Deceit, hands on the shorter man’s shoulders. “Like our dog’s butt!”
“Remus, we don’t own a dog.”
“Not YET!”
“We’ve has this conversation, we aren’t—“ Deceit stopped himself, turning his attention back to Logan. “What are you doing here?”
Logan has been watching the two’s interaction intently, and was almost taken off guard again when he was addressed. They had been bickering, but it seemed much more like banter than hatred. Maybe the two of them were friends? “I apologize for intruding, Deceit and Remus. I’ll admit, snooping around your home problem wasn’t the best first step into trying to learn more about the two of you. I apologize. I’m not here to cause any sort of trouble.”
Deceit watched Logan, a pair of arms crossing across his chest, another still holding the light side’s face. “Have you ever heard the proverb “curiosity killed the cat,” Logan?”
“Yes, I have. Have you ever heard the version that says "curiosity killed the cat, but satisfaction brought it back,” Deceit? I will leave if that’s what you want, but I bet if you to let me stay, and just ask you both some questions.”
Logan didn’t know what answer he was expecting, but it definitely wasn’t the “very well” Deceit had given him, pulling him towards the dining room with a mischievous smirk. He hadn’t excepted to sit down for a casual conversation over tea with Deceit and Remus— though whatever Remus was drinking certainly did not smell like tea.
Logan... hadn’t expected to enjoy his time getting to know the dark sides. He felt disappointed when Deceit suggested that he should head back home, but didn’t press to stay longer.
“This was awful. Don’t come back.” Deceit had said with a wink, just before disappearing from the room. Logan had already decided that he was going to be returning, and Deceit’s expression and blatant falsehood were helpful confirmations that the dark sides had enjoyed his company as much as he’d enjoyed theirs.
That’s how it began. Logan had a lot of free time anyway, so making time to visit Deceit and Remus a few times a month wasn’t difficult to fit into his schedule. For a while, that’s all it was, a casual meetup every week or two in the dark side’s commons. Then things progressed. Logan requested to see their rooms, and they obliged, allowing him to explore Remus’ half of the imagination, and the expansive garden that Deceit somehow found the time to tend to. They began spending even more time together, Logan visiting and becoming closer to his new friends. Were they friends? Logan felt very differently for Deceit and Remus than any of his other friends. The three sides’ relationship was something hard to categorize.
He hadn’t told the lights sides. They still weren’t on very good terms with Deceit and Remus, and Logan knew they had their reasons. He wasn’t typically one for keeping secrets, so this was difficult for him. But, Deceit had asked him not to say anything to them, so he kept to his word.
Logan cared very much for Patton, Roman, and Virgil, but... the change from spending all of his time with them, to having other friends, was refreshing. After filming videos with them, or any kind of argument, Logan began retreating to the dark side of the mindscape, instead of his room, where he usually did his sulking. Deceit and Remus rarely pestered him about why he was there, never sent him away, and were always willing to listen to Logan “spill tea” about the light sides.
One day, after a stressful workday and an anxiety inducing social event, along with some... particularly harsh comments from the light sides, Logan rose up, sitting in the couch of the dark side’s living room. He hadn’t even thought about where he was headed, so used to the routine of coming here at this point.
Deceit and Remus were both in the living room, and seemed to have been expecting him. Logan looked up at them, offering a polite nod. Deceit stared for a moment, before slipping into the spot beside him.
“Fuck, we could hear you guys goin at it from here.” Remus snickered, sprawling across the nearby coffee table. “I’d like to hear you get that heated more often, my cherry-on-top.”
Deceit snorted, reaching up to rub his temple. Logan felt two of Deceit’s arms reach over, one settling on the back of the couch, and the other in Logan’s knee.
“I’m sorry you had to hear our argument, Remus. It’s been a... rough day.” That made Remus giggle. “How are the two of you? If today was that taxing on the four of us, surely you were affected as well?”
Deceit made a vague gesture with one of his hands, adjusting his position in the couch to see Logan better.
Remus tapped his chin, leaning his hands off the edge of the table. “Double-Dee was a little upset, but I made him feel wayyyy better.” He snickered, kicking his legs up into the air.
“Ugh.” Deceit rolled his eyes, moving another hand to rest on Logan’s arm. “Logan, my dear, why don’t you stay here with us for a while?”
“What do you mean?” Logan frowned, a gloved hand moving his head slightly, so that his face was inches away from Deceit’s.
“I mean, you’ve been coming here all the time now anyway, and usually it’s because of some kind of altercation with the light sides. So, why don’t you... take a little break from them? Stay here, with the two of us. It could be fun. Run away with us. Just for a little while.”
Logan considered it for a moment, moving away from Deceit, the several hands resting on him moving away. He missed the feeling, it was... comforting. Deceit and Remus were looking at him, waiting for an answer. Remus was uncharacteristically quiet, laying on his stomach on the table as he kicked his legs behind him. Deceit sat with his hands on his lap, his other arms having disappeared.
During Logan’s months of research, he had discovered many differences between the light sides and the dark sides. But also, many similarities. Logan knew that his friends cared for him, but so did Deceit and Remus. Perhaps even more so. And the way that Logan felt about the two of them... it was finally beginning to make sense.
“Staying with the two of you sounds... very pleasant. Thank you. Though, I think you should be aware of something first. I seemed to have developed... romantic feelings, for the both of you. If that makes either of you uncomfortable, I understand—“
“Oh, sweet!” Remus sat up on the coffee table, grinning. “We love you too, nerdy Wolverine!”
Logan blinked. “O-Oh?”
“We’ve been trying to seduce you for months now, Logan. We’re trying to seduce you right now.” Deceit told him, trying to hide the blush that was spreading across his cheeks.
“This is going to be so much fun!” Remus cackled, hopping to his feet. He scooped Deceit off of the couch, spinning him around in his arms, as Logan had seen him so plenty of times by now. “Logan, you can sleep in my room!”
“Hey, no! He can stay in the guest room. Unless you would be more comfortable sleeping with us, Logan?”
Logan coughed, eyes widening. “I— well, I’m not—“
Deceit grinned, wrapping his arms around Remus’ neck. “Don’t worry, I’m totally teasing. Remus, put me down so I can show our guest to his new room. It might be a little dusty, I didn’t get a chance to fix it up much, it used to belong to... well, anyway.” Deceit waved a hand as Remus set him back down.
Logan watched the two of them head towards the stairs, following behind with smile.
Maybe Logan would enjoy his time with the dark sides. Maybe he would enjoy it even more than living with the light sides, and maybe this little vacation would turn into something much more permanent. And... maybe that was for the best.
