Becoming an Indonesian Language Teacher
Once I got an announcement that I was accepted in the FLTA Program by Fulbright I was not only happily surprised but in other way I was also scared. I am actually a kind of person who is afraid to try something new. I am also not a person who is easy to interact with other people.
This opportunity finally brings me to meet with other 13 FLTAs around Indonesian archipelago. They are all well-experienced people with excellent personalities. We just met for 1 week to have a Pre Departure Orientation in Bandung for a week before flying to the different states respectively.
Honestly speaking, I have never had an experience in teaching an Indonesian language before. This opportunity allows me to try something really new. Not only that, the environment is also new. I will be teaching American university students that are drastically different from Indonesia in terms of culture or system of education.
Through this blog, I want to write my experience becoming an Indonesian Instructor at university of Georgia. Many bittersweet moments have happened. I am sure those are also part of learning too. I will share the story day by day in the next note.
What is Fulbright? ~ Что такое Fulbright? ⠀ ⠀ Русский язык внизу / For Russian scroll 🇷🇺 ⠀ ⠀ ⠀ Today is a very special day for me. Three years ago on the 2nd of August I arrived in the US for my year as a Foreign Language Teaching Assistant 🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸 ⠀ ⠀ ⠀ What was @the_fulbright_program for me? Lot’s of things. It’s not only a chance to immerse yourself into another culture, language and communication, but also a way to get to know your own heritage. By teaching students Russian I found out a lot about our history, mentality, media and more. ⠀ ⠀ ⠀ This year gave me new confidence and made me more open-minded and tolerant. I met a lot of wonderful people and each of them taught me something I didn’t know before. ⠀ ⠀ ⠀ In the US I also came across totally different climate and found out what it is like to live with no winters🐧🐧🐧 ⠀ ⠀ ⠀ Сегодня особенный день. Три года назад 2-ого августа я приехала в США на свой год в качестве FLTA– ассистента-преподавателя иностранного языка по программе Fulbright. ⠀ ⠀ ⠀ Что для меня Fulbright? Очень многое. Это не только шанс погрузиться в другую культуру, язык и общение, но и узнать многое о своей собственной культуре. Преподавая русский язык в Штатах, я узнала многое о России, истории, менталитете и многом другом. ⠀ ⠀ ⠀ Этот год придал мне уверенности в себе, расширил мой кругозор и сделал более толерантной. so today you did some stuff you said some stuff and it makes me wonder if they are meaningful if they believe in what i believe if they say the same stuff i wish i could say instead of push it away to the back of my mind but now the time is over you have to unload your gun my heart is in front of you and its your choice to shoot it or swet it with yours and no matter what choice you’re going to take it, i will still come back home and talk to the moon about you.
