Summary:

Their first meeting doesn't exactly go well. Bob thinks Hangman is a douche and Hangman thinks Bob is a nerd. An unpleasant encounter with Bob's former pilot might set another perspective.

“Well, well, well. If this isn’t Bob ‘Faggot’ Floyd.”

Bob’s heart is beating fast and while the blood rises to his cheeks, he wishes for the ground to open up and swallow him whole. Hangman gives him an incredulous and astonished look. Of all people it has to be him to witness this situation!

“Are you assigned to fly with him?”, Slayer asks, but doesn’t even wait for an answer. “I’ll give you a warning. You should stay away from him or Bob here will surely try to get into your pants.”

“And who wouldn’t? I mean, look at me. Everybody wants a piece of the Hangman. Really can’t blame him for that.”

“Hey, Micah, you play in Houston in a few weeks right?” Jake smiled as he sat curled on the couch, staring at Bob in their kitchen. They shared a kitchen, since they shared a house now and all.

“Yeah, Bubs,” his oldest brother’s deep voice pulled his attention mostly back to the phone. It was hard to focus with the way Bob’s arms were flexing as he worked the dough for his chicken and dumplings.

“November 17. It’s a noon game. Want me to add you to the list?”

Jake felt his face crease in his cheesiest grin as Bob glanced at him and blew him a kiss. He still couldn’t believe this gorgeous man was his.

“Nat called,” he said. Jake was looking over his shoulder, “I hope you’re proud of yourself. I got a very… Kazansky-like lecture that I’m sure she’s been rehearsin’ since Lemoore.”

Work. It was enough to snap him out of the ridiculous lavender haze he’d tripped into. God, work. The mention made his hands itch. He hadn’t flown in so long. Not in weeks. He’d even managed to start missing the particular musty smell in their classroom. He’d forgotten to iron his khakis. Idiot. Not just his khakis. Where had he left his aviators? Damn - they were still at Mickey’s. Shit - the laundry list of wayward chores started to materialise in his head. If it wasn’t for that stupid party, everything would’ve been organized as he had planned. Instead, he’d saddled himself with tedious tasks. And now he had agreed to meet his dad. Swell.

But it didn’t matter. He’d be home soon. He’d be back in his teeny tiny base house with the shower that hadn’t been changed since the 90s, the rusting medicine cabinet and mirror, and the gate that made him question just how effective his teatnus shot was. Back to early starts and driving to work with Mickey singing along to Bad Bunny. Back to cheering on Bradley’s little league team and the greasy pizza from the place near the beach.

Flying again.
