After a flash flood that sent dead rats floating through the streets of Copenhagen, the city began reimagining itself. Away from concrete and asphalt and towards softer, “spongier” settlements that work with the natural flow of the water cycle. With cloudbursts increasing in intensity because of climate change, many cities from Beijing to Chennai are trying this too - and Copenhagen offers some good lessons.

Greenland and Antarctica are both tracking the IPCC's worst-case climate warming scenario. Left unchecked, this will lead to an extra seventeen centimetres of sea level rise by 2100.
Professor Shepherd said: “Every centimetre of sea level rise leads to coastal flooding and coastal erosion, disrupting people’s lives around the planet.
“If Antarctica and Greenland continue to track the worst-case climate warming scenario, they will cause an extra 17 centimetres of sea level rise by the end of the century.
“This would mean 400 million people are at risk of annual coastal flooding by 2100.
Dear Ellen, I'm writing to you because I know you have a kind heart so I hope you will help us. 3 days ago major floods appeared in Croatia, Bosnia and Herzegovina and Serbia. River Bosnia and river Sava flooded areas around its banks and now the situation is getting worse. Thousands of people are in danger, some of them drowned because the water is getting into their houses, hundreds of animals drowned too. In some places and villages there is no longer water but major diseases will apear soon. Snakes and rats appeared, the water moved a field full of mines and a lot of houses are demolished. I hope that this message will get to you and that many other people will see it because we NEED your help!!!
Please click this link and let it be seen. It's a catastrophe, thousants of people lost their homes. Everything people gave their whole lives to is now gone.Whole families lost their homes.
