| Flensburg Studio | 19/12/17: In relation to the texture of the Flensburger Newspaper piece, here are some more detailed shots, showing the range of texture. From the top where is it thick, like carboard, and has a water mark detail, to the bottom of the sheet where the paper pulp was so thin that it turned into a tissue paper. There was also some breakage here, due to how thin the newsprint was, and so there is also the texture of the newsprint in its original form.
| Flensburg Studio | 18/11/17: For the woodworking workshop, I decided to continue with the theme of paper: in relation to wood I found this especially interesting, due to wood being a raw material in paper making. To show this, I did a reverse process, the paper becoming wood. I’ve been interested in piles and doubles of papers, so for my wood sculpture I made a stack of papers. In order to achieve this I carved into the sides of the wood, and smoothed the edges into slopes, as though the paper was drooping over the edge.
It’s not a very successful piece in my opinion, however the meditative, repetitive process reminds me of my other labour intensive work, such as my number drawings. I may return to this process when I have a more concrete use for the medium, but this was an interesting process to take part in.

| Flensburg Studio | 19/11/17: For an installation project, I was looking at empty spaces, or unused spaces. I became attracted to a windowsill, in how it acts as a place of rest, but it is usually unused. To fill this space I knew that I wanted to use paper, due to how much I am using it in the rest of my practice. I liked how it both filled the space, but also made you aware of the empty air, as the paper was not tightly bunched. I also liked how the different types of paper reacted to the light, making a colder or a warmer tone.

| Flensburg Studio | 13/11/17: Another process of this decommodification was laying new sheets of white pulp over the newsprint. This is also acting as a form of coating or covering, obscuring the information. This delicate, handmade edging, with the harsh, cut, printed information of the newspaper. This contrast acts as a way to devalidate the financial implications of the information. In creating a new layer, it acts as my opinion becoming more significant than simply being a commodity.
