I love the drop shadow on this map. Is it supposed to give it, a flat object (on a flat screen lol) dimensionality in a way that aligns with the isometric perspective of the navigable field? (Y); why does it mark every other feature indicating an important human need that Ness doesn’t technically need to proceed on this map apart from the museum, right in the middle, which is where you have to go to continue gameplay? Is the map pretending to be useful? Can game resources (partic given in a storyline pervaded by manifestations of deceit, corruption and innocence from the perspective of children, and chaotic transformation) allude to these themes by also pretending or obscuring -- little suggestions designed to subtly inform game mechanics and truths specific to Earthbound/Mother 2 -- to challenge that pure hope&trust the children want to have and try&must demonstrate, in order to make you stronger? In order to level you (you, personally) up? It’s a very human, dark Bildungsroman of a game that doesn’t get patronizing or stupidly epic but is very gentle and cruel and has rly good music
