SCX30 Jumps From Speeding Freight Train #burntfinger #livesteam #scx30
Here's a look at a (oversized for testing purposes) turntable, and five of the new cars I've made over the past couple days: a stainless steel refrigerated boxcar, a flatbed car in three colors (modified from a stake flatbed previously used for pulpwood) with an empty variant, steel sheet-metal coils, and steel plates, and finally a new steel pipes load for the skeleton car, which previously carried logs.
Despite the pixel art style, Train Misconductor uses 3D models with a pixel art shader. Some cars had previously been given PBR textures for a nice shiny or weathered look, such as the stainless steel tank car, but this is the first time a normal map and anisotropy map were used. The normal map allows for detail on the shiny new reefer, and the anisotropy map allows for the sides of the coils to have that "brushed metal" look that results from the coils being concentric spirals.
As always a big thank you to @msasterisk for all of the technical implementation.
One more shot of that train...

The daily branch line freight chugs it’s way through the wheat fields of Washington as it delivers its cargo. Amongst the freight is a pair of brand new Caterpillar Sixty crawler tractors from California. It’ll soon reach the farmers that order the new machines for this years harvest. ———————————— After spending time out here in eastern Washington, I was motivated to make a piece based on my surroundings. So I took an old drawing and worked it into this new picture of a freight heading through the area. I even took the time to draw the two tractors as a nice wave to the plowing bee since the folks there were really nice. Anyway, enjoy my new picture.
Antique photo (1910's?) showing a modern farm tractor being delivered via one of North America's oddball 30-inch gauge railroads, the Pacific Coast (Ry. & Steamship Navigation Co.) narrow gauge line...
